So I have a 2006 Grand Prix GXP. The bolt holes on the top of the front bumper on the passenger side have been broken, I'm guessing the previous owner or owner before that had probably bumped into a pole or something of the like and broke them. Because these are broken the line between the bumper and the hood when the hood is closed it not aligned correctly (the passenger side of the bumper sits slightly farther forward than the driver side).

I was wanting to get some input on how to either fix these holes or just simply secure this bumper back into its correct position.

I was thinking about honestly just pushing the bumper back, holding it, and then just drilling a couple new holes with self tapping screws and calling it a day (I mean, you don't even see the area since its under the hood). Is this a bad idea? Or would this work?

I attached pics of both the driver side (bolt holes in good shape) and passenger side.

you could try gluing some new plastic under the bumper, then trim and shap it and re drill the hole.

its how i fixed my climate controls broken mounting tab.

    un broken side.

repaired with a supermarket discount card.

i re drilled the hole after the glue dried, no more rattle from it since.

I imagine you can get a washer/glue it or use epoxy underneath it or something and enlarge the hole if needed.

I was also thinking about using a washer and gluing it on top. Would JB Weld work and hold up. So basically, just take a washer, put some JB Weld on it, and stick it into place?

If all else fails, are self tapping screws and drilling new holes a bad idea?

Not really as a last resort. I would try to avoid doing this first

ive seen large plastic washers at the parts store, maybe epoxy one under it, then cut another to fit in the top where 1/2 the circle is busted out, glue that one in so the push clip is flush looking.

duplicolor likely has something to match it for a quick little touch up.

bumper epoxy is what i used to fix my lower bumper where it cracked, this whole sanded area was a crack, even the hole was cracked.

i laid it on thick on the back side, and ran out at the end, why it looks like it needs one more coat of filler. but its still holding up, and its on the bottom of the bumper, no one ever see's it.

they sell it at autozone, also comes with a kit where you add mesh to the back for extra strength. its sand able and paint able. its what i used on my back bumper too to fill all the nicks in it. you may recall that mess and how it turned out lol

pretty sure it was this one. same stuff also came in the kit with the mesh for a few bucks more. those two little tubes did the back bumper, and the fronts repair, went a long way. it does set up pretty fast, so have a plan and get to it lol

Its been a busy Bronco fixin week but I did find this.... eventually!

If the chunk is still there on at least one hole, superglue that back. If you have a good enough stapler, hit it with that after glue (and hide the staple under the clip). Epoxy-ing a new piece of plastic under it can work for awhile but it will raise the bumper there. I'd just glue the chunk back and keep an eye on it. If it does come loose when driving and if that is irritating when you pop the hood, by all means secure it with a screw or zip-tie. Its your car, just be neat about it. The epoxies out there require great prep work and often don't last as intended if not featheredged and painted over, plus they also add thickness. If you can shove that part back and it stays, I might just leave it alone or roll with just superglue (the gel if possible).

I think I like the washer and JB weld idea. If it adds noticeable thickness then I'll just add washers to all the bolts! Washers on everything! Lol
