Hi I want to order some brighter replacement LEDs because about half of mine are out in my instrument cluster on the dash. The gauges are already red so I'm assuming there is some sort of film to make them red. If I wanted them to stay red but just replace the bulbs, could I buy a replacement set of white bulbs(like the set from PFYC) in just white and they would stay red? Just want to know before I spend money on it. Sorry but I couldn't really find this question anywhere so didn't know where else to ask.

My apologies red reviews and someone with an 03 GP GT said blue ones didn't work because of red film. Will assume the white ones will work fine. Sorry for the spam.

It's a film thing over cluster, cause you can get a white overlay and it's white/blue so the bulbs are all the same,my whole left area is out around the gas gauge and part of the speedo is dimmed

Have you done this yourself? Red film + red LED bulbs seems like it'd either be an awkward color since they probably aren't exactly or to dim to be worth it. Just don't wanna waste $50+ on nice bulbs to be the wrong color

Just like in brake lights, having a red led bulb in red housings will be brighter than a white led bulb in red housings. Just the way light works. The housing absorbs all colors except for red. So if the bulb only puts out red, more light will pass threw....if this can be applied to your topic

    *edit*
Although it will probably be much brighter and maybe a different shade of red. Regardless, either red or white will work

Y red they are just chrome tipped bulbs I believe, the overlay is what makes it red, then your bright light and low fuel etc would look weird wouldn't it?

I have not done this myself. I have seen this a couple years back on 3800pro. The guy used red leds. I thought I had saved the photo but I guess I did not. It is also gone from his post.

So red would be brightest and stay red? Also regarding the previous question from 94grandprix, it won't make the spaces open from the gauge faces look awkward will it?

The miles thing shows up clear,I'd say it would look funny and the needles being yellow,on my old silverado I replaced the bulbs and they were all clear,I think what makes the orange low fuel light and blue bright light And red emergency brake light is just overlays,in my opinion I think it would look funny,in my opinion I'd go with the clear or clear with chrome/metallic tips, that's there to probably not get to hot but that's up to you I prefer the stock look

Maybe go with the ones without the silver, not to sure which would be brighter,I know they make led bulbs for like the floor board lights just not sure if they would fit it the cluster

If its anything like fbodies, the cluster has 8 changeable bulbs which is all the goodies you are talking about. And every other light is its own built in bulb, that requires opening up the cluster and soldering in new bulbs. So blinkers, CEL, any warning lights, won't be affected. I installed a white overlay with built in red and blue lighting that looks cool, and then changed the stock bulbs to white leds, makes the red needles have an awesome white glow from the base of the needle

Not looking to change the overlay or color. Only reason I am even wanting new bulbs is cause half of it is dimmed out at night cause of bad bulbs. Unless there is an awesome decently priced overlay and some cheap bulbs, I plan on sticking with as close as stock to possible. Just figured the LEDs would be brighter. Which brings us back to the original question. Wish more people had pictures of the stock overlay with different bulbs.

I was just showing different scenarios. Its a hard scenario because the stock cluster is tinted red. So not many options. White/ red will look red. Blue would probably be purple and yellow would make orange. And any other color would probably look like poop.but try Google. who knows

It should look stock with the red leds. The only thing that may appear red is the odometer. I think that uses the light bleeding from another bulb. I haven't removed the cluster in so long so I can't remember which bulbs are just for the speedometer and tachometer.

Not interested in any other bulbs other than white or red right now. Think red is the better choice then? Doesn't have to be a PERFECT match, just close.

The only concern with Red would be the yellow section just before redline on the tach changing color and the orange needles but then again I can currently only see two of the needles at night anyways so don't think I'd really notice. Haha
