I have a 2005 GT that is one of our family, commuter cars (around 125k miles). I want to clean it up and maybe do a few mods. I don't want to spend a ton of money. Here is a list of things I tentatively plan on doing:

    1. Vacuum entire car

    2. Clean carpets with carpet cleaner. We have a Bissel upright carpet cleaner that I plan on using. The carpets have never been cleaned so they really need it.

    3. Buy new floor mats. The mats are original and the driver side has a hole starting.

    4. Clean dash, seats (leather) and all other vinyl/leather. Any suggestions on best product to use to clean?

    5. Protect dash, seats (leather) and all other vinyl/leather. In the past I've used Lexol (brown bottle) on leather. Any suggestions?

    6. Clean windows. Not sure of best product....in the past just used Windex.

    7. Change out radio. The radio is stock and does not have auxilary inputs. Would like something that can hook I-pod and Samsung Galaxy III into. Also display lights are burned out. Any suggestions on good radio under $100? I would love back-up camera and/or navigation (would be willing to pay more) but I don't think such a radio would fit.

    8. Really tired of red display lights but from my research, changing out is really difficult. Any ideas?

    9. Possibly change interior lights to LEDs. Anyone have pics of what this would look like?

    10. Steering wheel doesn't look the greatest. Black vinyl coating is peeling off and silver plastic looks dirty. Any suggestions?

    11. Clean headliner. Not sure how to do this as I know I don't want to get it wet as it might sag.

    Am I missing anything?

    Thanks in advance!

Changing the radio will be way more than $100. yes you can find cheap decks but you need a harness to tie the aftermarket radio and factory connection together. I have been quoted at car audio stores for this harness can be up to $250 (may be cheaper online but I didnt check). Change out all the interior lights to led. I looks way better. If you want pics I can upload later

For the headliner just use a spot cleaner.
It worked for me... just spray a minimal amount.
Dab dry with a clean rag

You'll have to look used to get in at that price break. Even then it'll be tough. If you want to keep your chimes and steering wheel controls, the adapters will cost that much.

I have used lexol cleaner (orange bottle) and conditioner (brown bottle) on the leather seats before. It does a good job. I have also used lexol vinylex (light blue bottle) on the rest of the interior plastics. It also works good. Mother's and Meguiar's have a 2 step cleaner and conditioner for leather. Both have very good reviews. I will be trying out the meguiar's kit soon. I have switched over to using mother's VLR to maintain the interior plastics and leather. I like it because it leaves the interior looking OEM istead of tha high gloss.

For the windows look into stoner's invisible glass. That works well.

I used to work at a dealership and I did detail there. I treated my car with ECP. Entire car protection package. It is pretty expensive but I recommend it. You should also get a take home care package that has more of the wax and leather treatment to re apply yourself. Go though your car and rewax and recondition your leather with the kit every 3-6 months and your car will stay mint. I also recommend using a clay bar before waxing to get that glass smooth feel.

and to add on about changing your display colors. I found a kit to change the lights behind the guages, but as far as the other red lights in the car you would need to sodder in your own lights which I dont recommend. I plan on getting blue guage faces for my car and calling it good.

If you're cleaning headliners, carpets, etc, just buy FOLEX. It's $10/bottle, it's odourless, colourless, no soapy residue. Works great, another fellow enthusiast turned me on to the stuff, I use it on everything (even around the house).

For $82.36 (plus tax) you can get the wiring harness with chime, antenna adapter, and dash kit for a single din stereo. That's about the cheapest you can get those components then just find the cheapest stereo you can find. You could also look into just adding an aux port which is very cheap but requires more work.

A quick update. I just tried out a couple of meguiar's products that would work good. I tried out their leather sealer treatment and ultimate protectant the spray version. Each prodcut worked good in making my interior looking new. I recommend both. If you do get them you don't need to use that much.

For an interior clean, use Meguiar's Natural Shine Protectant P/N G4116. Haven't used the wipes but just get the bottle with a set of cotton white finishing towels. don't use microfiber or terry due to the fuzz cuz it will be left on the dash. Walmart sells the spray for $5 and the towels will be near the spray. It gives the whole interior a true natural shine and not that greasy sh!tty shine like armor all and other crap.

I forgot to mention that I used a foam wax applicator when I was applying the dash protectant and another when I was applying the leather sealer to the seats. I also used some meguiar's all purpose cleaner that I diluted down to clean the dash and door panels to remove any dirt and grime to get the surface ready for the protectant.

Meg's natural shine is also good. It will give your interior that new OEM look. Another good combination that I see on the meguiar's forum is using their quick interior detailer which has some cleaning ability. It leaves UV protection behind but it doesn't leave any kind of gloss or shine. Then you can follow that up with natural shine.

And as previously stated you can get these at walmart for just under $5.
