Hello, I have a carbon fiber inferno hood on my GXP. Has anyone tried putting LED lights inside the scoops.
Thought it would look cool if its ever been done. Or a How-to

Hmmmm. Shouldn't be to difficult. Might even look menacing if done tastefully and correctly.

You should scratch the led idea and give me the hood lol. I think it could look good if done right (balanced lighting and of course not seeing the LEDs is a factor)

You might think it is cool to do now but honestly I don't really see a point in spending the money on it, you might use it a few times and then you just will stop using it. When I was 16 I bought LED lights for my cars interior footwells along with exhaust tips that had red LEDs and I used them a handful of times but now looking back on it I wish I wouldve saved the money. Just my opinion based on experience but its your car man so make it how you want it, thats what I have been doing since and trust me I have had a lot of trial and error with it

hey bro i noticed your thread now i have not personally done this but i have done a ton with led lighting not just in grand prix's but in general. First off try to do a add a fuse something that is switched on and off the car already so no bulky switches in the dash drilled or something of sort. now for leds i would do two led strip's up above with cut to fit ones by alpena the ultra bright ones. That way you can have size you need when you mount them extend the wires run them down side hood or underneath where you have hiding the wires then if no way around and you do see run wireloom whole way so it look's stock. and make sure also to use 3m molding tape all the rest garbage. best of luck to you bro. im sure if you were to do red deff look mean. or what you could do even make your self inlay decal some how with real then plexi with holes drilled in plexi so air can still go through and pontiac logo or saying pontiac racing or something decal that way when lit up you would see that.

One point to mention, I know here in Manitoba, Canada, projecting a red or blue light forward is illegal. Just to be safe, I would check your local laws before I put any lights in the opening of a hood intake.

Yes. Some lighting is illegal. You are right about that. Specially being red and blue projected forward. But there are many ways around that. Also they are legal to have. But you can drive around at night with them on. But for the car shows. The race track. Or just to show off for a min. Then shut them off. I believe everything will be alright.

I do like the plexi glass idea. I have a friend that's really into auto audio electrics and lighting so I'm going to run a few of these ideas through him and we will see what we can whip up here.

I would definitely suggest adding a switch to them if you decide to go that route. You could even locate it in the engine bay if you didn't want to run it all the way inside the car. I would say that even if you think that this is cool now, in a few months you may think otherwise. Only reason I say that is because I hook up all my extra lights to switches 1) because I like switches and 2) if I ever get tired of them I can just shut them off. I suggest going for it and seeing how it goes. Only colors in Wisconsin that you can have facing forward are white and amber. Not sure on Michigan's laws but I can almost guarantee they are very similar if not the same. Keep that in mind. Good luck!

in my old state you could have the "glow" from the lights and be legal. but if you could actually see the bulb or led it was not legal.

So indirect lighting is legal? Time to get the smoke and mirror and make the car really light up. And if the cops ask, tell them mirror isn't illegal even if they are only used to reflect the light.
