Thread: Suggestions for an 02' GP GT?

I currently have an all stock teal 2002 Grand Prix GT, I am looking at doing so visual mods. I am planning on installing a new deck, and getting my windows tinted as well. The rear windows to a 5% tint.

I am thinking about getting some halos for headlights. I am currently looking at these ones. They look pretty decent but not 100% sure. If I do get those halos, I kind of want to get LED foglights. Also is there anyway to clean the lens in the foglight or whatever it's called because it is looking a little dirty. I also am thinking about getting a new exhaust but probably not right away because my current one is really rusty.

Also the vinyl in my car like on the doors and what not always get dirty, and it is quite annoying to me and I don't think there's anyway to fix it except watching where you step.

I am also wanting to clean up the engine bay but I am a little nervous to do that.

I would love for someone to help with the question below as I am doing that right now.
Right now I am attempting to take the carpet out so I can clean it as it does a few cigarette burns , and it smells like smoke. Also to put the carpet back in what do you have to do? Is there any gluing, or does the carpet just slide back into place?

Anyways do any of you have any suggestions on what kinds of things I should do to my car?

As far as I know there is no gluing that needs to be done to the carpet, but I've never taken it out of a GP so....

I'd say tint, different spoiler, lower it (properly, don't just cut the springs, lol..), HID fogs, the Halo's.

As far as cleaning the engine bay just cover the alt. and coils with a plastic bag, spray down with degreaser and then hit it with a hose. When you wash it off you want a bathing suit and safety glasses. You WILL get wet and you also don't want any degreaser or junk getting in your eyes. If ther grease is really stubborn (like around the valve covers that are usually leaking, or the LIM) then get a cheap dish brush from Dollar General and give it a scrub to loosen it up then hit it with the water again. Did that on my Bonneville and my GPGT and made a world of difference.

And if you haven't yet, check to be sure you don't need to do the LIM gaskets as they are known to fail on these motors and if not caught in time it will cost you a new motor. If you look between where the LIM and heads meet and see a black nylon gasket then they need to be done sooner or later, especially if you notice a coolant loss but nothing driping.

LIM Gasket? This is my first car so I don't know much but when I got the inspection before I bought it I remember them saying something has a slow leak. Any guides, on how to find the gasket?

I'm sure we can come up with some. Nice first car btw. Since I don't know your level of expertise with cars I would check this out. It explains how to change the LIM gaskets. You can leave the lifter alone and is NOT needed unless yours are having an issue.

In replacing the LIM gaskets, you will also need enough oil for 2 complete changes + 1 quart to pour down the lifter valley and 2 filters. Coolant elbows (which I suspect is what the mechanic said was your "slow leak"), injector o-rings, the updated aluminum LIM gaskets, UPPER intake gasket, some RTV for the 4 corners where the LIM meets the heads, some thread sealant for the LIM bolts (as they like to wick oil up eventually). You may as well add both valve cover gaskets AND bolt grommets (the little rubber things under the head of the bolts) since these are a source of oil leaks as well and could cause a fire if the front one is leaking badly enough. It's been known to happen.

Everything is pretty easy to do, but you have to be carefull when you disconnect the fuel lines from the rail as they like to leak afterwards. If you search in the 3.8L forum there is tons of info on how/what to do for this. Oh, and if you do attempt it yourself, be sure to cover all the intake runners in the heads once you have the LIM off. You don't want any stray bolts getting down in there. Trust me, lol....
