From what I saw of my "rocker rust-out mayhem" the 2 front drain hoses sit in the front door hinge area, as you said, but the hose was soaking the sound-dampener material on inside of fender/wheel well area, if I look behind hinges when door open you can see the big wool sponge. And im not too sure if pass side front hose was leaking onto dampener or not, but it was for sure major contributor of rust problems. In all areas near and around the hoses the rust is by far the worst. There could be and im sure there are other factors at play here, but I was shocked to see this drainage system. Living in PA with all the road salt doesn't help, i'm trying to figure a different route for hoses, was thinking out bottom of rocker maybe? but I don't want anywhere that can fill and clog with dirt/mud, suggestions anyone?
Re: The Reason Why These Rocker Panels Rust Out??
My GP SE has no sunroof , and I have had the car Rust Checked every year since the car was bought, TO my surprise, this past winter I noticed that the passenger side rocker panel was rusted about a foot from the front fender, , there has to be water that enters around the wheel well and travels , well just wash you car and continue to spray water there and you will see water running out the edge of the rockers on a non rusted one, so that tells ya that water is entering from around the front fender around the wheel well !!
Re: The Reason Why These Rocker Panels Rust Out??
I recently por15'd the crap out of my rockers, which weren't even that bad to begin with. Good preventative measure IMO.
Re: The Reason Why These Rocker Panels Rust Out??
God never wanted the previous generation Grand Prixs to make it more then a few years. He knew the 04+ would be the best generation yet and knew they would always be around..
That's the reason the 97-03 are rust buckets.

04-08's just look wierd to me.... I try to like em but cant do it. Having said that my rockers need to be replaced but at least the car looks cool lol
Re: The Reason Why These Rocker Panels Rust Out??
I found restamps for the rocker panels. Pretty handy and cheap as well.

Yeah but 04's & up have dumb interiors & don't look nearly as nice imo. God made the 97-03's rust to give the 04's & up a chance
Re: The Reason Why These Rocker Panels Rust Out??
Dumb interior?? You must be on meth. 04s are quite the step up from the previous gen. What's next I bet you say your seats are so comfortable..when we all know they aren't :/

Interior reminds me of an E36, looks to airplane cockpit'ish, not my style - seats are ass in the 97-03's but I couldn't complain about my 2003 Limited edition seats - they were nice. Old 2004 S4 I had at one time, those seats owned all!
Re: The Reason Why These Rocker Panels Rust Out??
Welcome to the world of modern days cars!
Re: The Reason Why These Rocker Panels Rust Out??
Nothing modern about an e36
Re: The Reason Why These Rocker Panels Rust Out??
How does the interior of a GP look like an e36?
Give me some of whatever you're on.
Re: The Reason Why These Rocker Panels Rust Out??
Re: The Reason Why These Rocker Panels Rust Out??
The center stack is tilted toward the driver... that's about the only similarity.
And lots of cars are like that.
Re: The Reason Why These Rocker Panels Rust Out??
Yup only so much different things you can do to a interior unless you want to do something similar to a lot of Honda and have the shifter on the center stack.
Re: The Reason Why These Rocker Panels Rust Out??
The interior of the 04-08 are ok with me its just the strange look of the exterior that I can't get used to. I do like the bigger brakes and V8 on the gxp tho :th_thumb-up:
Re: The Reason Why These Rocker Panels Rust Out??
Ok, so...?
if you're going to replace rusted rockers, would you:
1. find a clean donor car, cut em out and use them to replace the rusted one(s)
2. Buy the Rock-Auto new steel ones...
curious as to which way you'd all go or went!
:)

Re: The Reason Why These Rocker Panels Rust Out??
I'm planning on buying new and replacing mine this winter. A local body shop will cut out the old ones and weld in the new ones for $400. I also have to get my aftermarket fin repaired and repainted too. The damn thing cracked and is letting water in :th_shakinghead2:
Re: The Reason Why These Rocker Panels Rust Out??
yea, ive never been that fond of the 04+ on the inside or outside.
some can be made to look clean, but it takes a lot of work. the 97-03 look clean stock.
get new rockers if your going to go through the trouble to do it. otherwise, id get another car that is a good roller, and swap my stuff over.
