Nice dash. Where did you get it?
i'd be happy to. i'll try and take them tomorrow whenever i wake up and before i go to work. oh and one more thing. in order to properly hook up your amp to the battery you can't use the stock bolt. there's this different type of bolt that you can get at like autozone or advance. also a decent audio shop should have it too. it's kind of like 2 bolts in one. the main bolt goes through the ring for the positive cable and the "2nd"bolt that goes through the power cable bolts into the main bolt. don't worry about it being confusing. i'll post pictures of the bolt up as well and how i have my power cable for my amp posted.
crshoveride :
cool thanks for the idea i saw pictures of that grommet you were talking about on another site...
and for Freebeer187:
I got the dash off of ebay it's the dual reverse glo gauges from blue to green with white face...
this saturday i'll be playing with the amp to install it and i'll get a sub too...
maybe even a double din radio, i don't know yet
You get them from eBay. That is where I got both of mine, one for the GT and one for the GTX. They are easy to install, but you have puncture a small hole to allow the stop post on the gas gauge to allow the overlay to sit properly. Why they have never changed that design is beyond me.
Hey Twiggsta. Looks like it's coming along pretty good. Sorry to hear about the little fire. Good thing you come out when you did. Hate I didn't see this thread sooner. Can't wait to see what else you have in store for it. Great job man.
Good luck, nice project, one of the few people that actually gets a project car and fixes it... haha
Thanx for the compliments,
I really don't feel like doing anything today but my window regulators came in from ebay so I guess I'll pop them suckas in to make my windows work...
after the second line...
I saw a cheap double din unit in Walmart so i think that i am about to get some metal strapping and get to installing...
and also my gauges are a little off i think that its from the overlays being thicker than the stockers, and the needles are not able to move as freely so I'll take apart the gauge cluster and try to set the needles again because instead of slipping them over i pulled the needles off, not really worrying about the rpm's and the fuel but the damned temperature and the speed i need to be accurate...
Okay so over the last few days I did a some work for the GTP...
I went to the junkyard on monday and picked up some things...
back dash to replaced the burned one...
auto dim mirror...
some misc fuses...
fuse box cover...
torque mounts (dog bones)...
spare tire cover...
trunk carpet from a cadillac...
total=$90 :lol
and for the last 3 nights i've been working on the cars sound system and stuff...
I started with the back dash I bought some vinyl and fabric spray paint for auto zone and i spray painted the back dash, it was tan, I didn't sand because i was like this is only temporary until I can find a black back dash...
here are some pictures of the new painted dash and the old one taken out...

added a couple more coats to darken it up a bit more after these pictures.
Next I ran my amp power wire through the passenger side grommet as recommended but the trip part was I was drilling through the rubber and slid the hanger through as indicated then as i tied the power wire to the hanger and was sending it back through the grommet popped out, so i ran the wire through below the factory wiring and continued the install down the passenger side under the matting for the rear seats and to the trunk...

after that was done it was time to tackle the windows...
i thought i had some experience because i changed out the driver's side motor and regulator but these were a bit#$ because the passenger side was secured with sheetmetal screws and I couldn't figure that out for like about 5 mins of head scratching...
after i installed the motor on the passenger side the switches were installed I tested the switches and i noticed that if you press on the up side the window goes down and if you press on the down side the window goes up, which is completely opposite of the fron switches, i fooled with the switches a bit to see if i could just switch the switch orientation but i couldn't the actual switches are too long for the covers to snap into place,
oh well at least my windows work properly now...

looks like she's coming along pretty good. yep that's the spot i was talking about and that's pretty much how i ran my wire too.
after i exhausted myself on the two rear windows it was time to move onto the dogbones,
fairly simple installation and it was easy too...
also added is a pic of the power amp wiring...
these pictures are of the bad rubber insert and the final installation,
i know that you can buy only the inserts but they were so conviently located on the seat of one of the junked grand prix's i just bought both dogbones for the price of one new insert...

damn man... you working hard
i think that it looks good so i'll hold off on getting another one for a little while...
now i was riding around bumpin my newly installed amp and sub that was laying around my home and it shut off, I noticed that the amp was in protect mode and upon further inspection i found that the ground cable for the amp was disconnected from the unit- my box slid apparently and it ripped off the connector... so i decided to take a piece of 1x4 and drill it to the car, then drill the box to the 1x4...here are some pics...

Check out Clubgp.com classified section. There are about 3 separate posts of guys selling motor mounts.
I'm not really worried about the brakes as long as they are working, it's not like i am going to be racing this car it's a daily driver and I am going to drive it daily i think the stock brakes work fine,
