    Yea take them off the car it worth the extra bit of extra time to do them the right way or else the lights tend to look like they're done very cheaply. There's also a write in the how to section look over that also.

    pull the trunk liner back, unscrew the plastic thumb screws, it then pulls right off, this is how you change your tail lights when they burn out.

    taking them off makes working on them easier and safer for your car, who wants over spray on the cars paint. and you need to sand them and wash them, and tape them off.
