Re: Thinking of redoing the interior. Can leather seats be painted?
Alright so far the input has been really good on this. Now Im wondering how easy is it to change the color of the seats. I origonally planned on upgrading seats but they seem to be way to expensive/ hard to find. So for the time being I would consider using my stock seats for the 2 tone look. However is it possible to use some sort of dye or is there a leather paint that actually works? Im afraid that the color would come out onto your clothes or something and if I give a chick a ride the last thing I need are my seats messing up her clothes. Thanks in advance!

Fixed.

Haha. Yea to be honest I would be more upset if my seats got messed up over her clothes getting messed up. You got me!
I still feel that would rub off though? Maybe not. Ever have experience with it?

Personally, no. But I absolutely see where you are coming from. I'd be worried about the same thing. I say take Red's suggestion, the dude knows what is up.
Re: Thinking of redoing the interior. Can leather seats be painted?
I heard it works but only if you prep it really good. Otherwise you've just F'ed up your seats.
Re: Thinking of redoing the interior. Can leather seats be painted?
This may sound stupid but how would you really prep a seat? I think of sanding when I hear the word prep but I dont see how you would sand leather?
Re: Thinking of redoing the interior. Can leather seats be painted?
Preps the key..my buddy painted his old leather seats in his civic with it and for the few months that he had the car they looked good but ended up selling it and got something different.
Of course I used the paint on other interior pieces and cannot explain how much I'm impressed with their products not cheap stuff and you'll more then likely have to get it online but its worth it over cheaper stuff like duplicolor etc.
But if you could find a way to 2 time the interior and keep the seats stock then that would probably be a safer route.
Re: Thinking of redoing the interior. Can leather seats be painted?
You gotta really clean out all the oils and crap, and I think you scuff it with scotch brite, but I can't be sure.
Re: Thinking of redoing the interior. Can leather seats be painted?
Alright. I will do a little looking around for how to prep them correctly. Thanks for the help guys. Its really appreciated.
Re: Thinking of redoing the interior. Can leather seats be painted?
Gotta clean all the oil etc off the seat. You can use soap and water and clean it thoroughly then use some kind of leather or vinyl prep. The key is you want to make sure any leather cleaner/conditioner isn't on the seat still when it comes times to paint.
Re: Thinking of redoing the interior. Can leather seats be painted?
SEM makes a Leather and plastic cleaner and prep in one can, they also make a vinyl cleaner and prep, and it takes more that one spray. Read instructions on cans, and make sure what material you have, just because it looks like leather don't make it so. And the vinyl and leather prep are different. There are dye's for leather and they work but never put on seats - just jackets. And I will be painting my headliner, so watch my thread, not sure when ill get to it, but should be in the next month.
Re: Thinking of redoing the interior. Can leather seats be painted?
Alright thanks for the heads up! I will probably watch your thread to see how the seats are holding up as well. I may just red the headliner with some other fabric to get more of a custom look.
