I'm posting this in hopes that I am breaking new ground as far as retrofits. As far as I know, I will be the first one to attempt this retrofit.

I currently run a Morimoto Mini H1 setup with Morimoto 4300k bulbs. While they certainly are awesome, I just don't feel like they are the best. Upon studying for hours on HIDplanet and JVXdriver.com, I have come to find out that the Morimoto's fall quite short (performance-wise) of most other projectors.

Reading JVX's article should save me some time on explaining exactly why this is.

Light Output Comparison: Modded RX330 vs. Mini H1

I couldn't have felt a better time to do something like this because of TRS' Black Friday special. I will be shaving about $75 off the cost of my desired setup per this special.

Now, the reason I am choosing the TRS RX330 projectors is that, from everything I have read, they are just about the best projectors I can use - second only to its older brother, the S200's. They are larger than the H1's, there is no doubt about that. However, they are slightly smaller than the previously succesfully retro'd FX-R projectors which makes me feel much better.

Now, the one downfall about the RX330's are that they lack a bi-xenon capability. I have two options to overcome this.

    1. Leave the high beam capsule of the factory unit intact and use (boring) halogen power as my high beam.

    OR

    2. Move my Morimoto Mini's into my high beam section and make it a quad retro.

Now, the answer to which one I will choose should be fairly obvious.

With all of this being said, I have decided exactly which route I am going to choose. I will be utilizing RX-330 (with TSX-R clear lenses) D2S projectors in the low beam position and my Morimoto Mini H1 projectors in the high beam position.

After doing even more extensive research, I have also decided that I am going to take the financial plunge and will be using Osram Xenarc 66240 CBI bulbs in conjunction with the RX's. These are the best bulbs currently on the market, hands down and the RX's will bring out their full potential. Yes, they are extremely expensive, but ultimately they will be so worth it.

Now, the only place I will be cutting costs will be ballasts. I just haven't seen enough evidence to justify spending $150+ on Denso ballasts. So, I will be using my current HIDextra ballasts. They have always treated me well and have never failed me, knock on wood. Also, I don't feel as if a Denso ballast would make THAT much of a difference with the CBI's.

Last, and certainly not least, I will be trying out the brand new Apollo 2.0 shrouds with xB LED angel eyes to accomplish this effect:

    Apollo_V2_07.jpg

Badass, I know. And different. I love it, but as always, to each their own. I wanted to replicate something similar to a Porsche Panamera's headlights and this was the closest thing I could find.

SO, sorry for the long post but I would just like to explain what my next step is. I will be ordering tomorrow and will be updating this thread as I make progress. This should be interesting as I believe that most of these things are first's in the Grand Prix community.

Nice! Good to see what I can expect.

I'm also going to be doing a 1mm spacer for a more intense color flicker as well as a custom curved shield (hopefully.)

What bulbs are those? Also, are they worth it?

Order placed. Going balls deep and ordered the CBI's along with everything else. Figured I'd take advantage of the sale. Saved about $125 dollars off the total.

Keep in mind it's a bit more difficult to install compared to the MH1 since it doesn't have any screw holes so you pretty much have to use jb weld and be careful with how much of the headlight you since there's not much of a lip on the projector itself to apply jb weld to etc. Unless your not OCD like me and don't mind the projectors protruding a bit.

Only way to do it honestly I rushed through my first few retros and hated every second of it especially when something doesn't goes your way. Now especially since I got other things going on with car..cam install. Port and polish heads etc I already have my hands full getting everything back together.

That's exactly right. Especially with something as delicate as a retrofit. After spending this much on parts, I won't allow it to be anything less than perfect. I'm in the same boat with these retro's. They are worlds beyond stock, but in the retrofitting world, they have so much more potential.

Just a small update. Received the projectors and immediately swapped lenses. Preliminary testing with the CBI's.

Keep in mind these bulbs require about 20+ hours until they are fully broken in; this is the worst they will ever be haha.

And xB LED Angel Eyes - holy balls bright.

Also, attempted making version 1.0 of my own curved shields.

Not bad for a first attempt, but definitely needs to be redone.

It's incredible! We left my driver side headlight plugged in (with the MH1) and the RX completely drowned it out. Also, the color flicker STOCK blows my mind! I can't imagine what it's all going to look like when it's modded and perfected..
