I have been looking to do some underhood painting on my GTP for a while, and I want to paint the diagonal braces first. I just wanted to know that since i drive this car every day would it be ok to drive without the braces for a day or two while the paint is drying?

You shoud have no problems. Just don't go hauling butt around any corners, but still wouldn't hurt anything. They are there to help stiffen the body from flex.

Their primary purpose is reinforcement of the radiator support when the motor mounts are pulling on it. There's a LOT of force on those upper motor mounts, especially during hard launches. Without the diagonals it could warp the unibody in that area.

Actually they're a safety device, there for the purpose to bend upwards when you get in a front end collision so that the hood does'nt chop your head off.

I've seen it, on Impala's. Why do you think they're bent like that?

That may be how they act during a collision, but their purpose is spelled out clearly in every w-body's section covered in the GM SI program.

You will be fine running your car without them.

I know what they are truly for, but do I dare voice my opinion. Its been stated what they are for already, nothing more.

Whatever the reason, I just posted what GM says about it in their SI manual.
