Okay. I'm excited I may not have to spend 200 bucks on time for my windows now lol. Id rather wok on my own car because I know how the work has been done.
Just do as Scotty said and watch vids on youtube. Prep is really important for good adhesion. And you really need to make sure you wet the film enough. If you dont think you've wetted it enough, spray more on it. If you dont prep it well or wet it enough, you'll end up with the infamous "bubble tint". Also be very light with the razor when cutting the pattern or you'll cut your glass and it will be very visible once the tint is applied.
how i cut all of my tint was to wet the back window and stick the tint to it so it dont blow a way. then a fluorescent light on the rear deck, that way you can see the perforated lines cut in the tint.
part that sucks about our doors is the window is framed. you need to slide the tint into the edges of the window frame, thats a dirty area that needs to be cleaned well also, and under the rubber sill/stop thing at the bottom of where the window is/top of the door skin. take this off so you can see the bottom of the glass and clean it good.
when the door skin is off you will see what i mean.
Okay just thought of a question. I seen on YouTube that they clean the.class with the soapy water a razor blade and a paper towel. How do u clean the back window then with the defogger lines then?
soapy water and -000 steel wool, you need that -000 or you may scratch your window, its pretty fine. just keep scrubbing left to right. also scrub the black out line around the back window real good.
Okay. Thanks for soo the info. Seems pretty easy. All them YouTube goes really help.
the thing with the you tube vids is there are none of anyone doing a framed window, the 3 sides of the windows are all wide open . with the frame you need to have it cut right before it goes on the inside, i started doing a dry fit on the inside before i took the clear film off. just to make sure it fit right.
after 2 windows its gets easier to do.
and the top i'd leave almost a 1/4 inch from the top of the glass too. maybe a bit less. if your to high to the edge of the glass it just crumples up when you roll the window up.
How far do u put it in the edge. Or do u just cut it from the outside alont the jam?
if your getting the pre cut you should have no problems at all.
if cutting it from a roll, i stuck it to the out side, cut it 2 inches wider than it needed to be, so its managable and trimmed the tint along the outside edge of the rubber on the out side of the glass, where it meets the paint. and then let it hang low over the door molding where the paint meet the trim and cut the bottom.( make sure the window is up and you have enough top to bottom before you cut the bottom) you can still cut the top and front edge of the fronts like a unframed window, just watch your cuts at the bottom. that worked near perfect for me. the fronts have odd angles and it helps to take the side view mirror off, just so the tint lays flat over the area. you dont want to fold it, thats a auto do over.
