i was thinking about do my wheels in black plasti-dip (powder coating is too expensive) and i have a few questions:

do i get the spray can or brush it on?
how do i apply this, like im painting anyother metal object?
is this a good idea? ive never really heard of this will it last or just flake off

i have the polished torque star rims and i want to do them in a black

A lot of people have done this. Use the spray can, havent heard of people using the brush. It will last. Hopefully someone thats done it can tell you more about applying it but I'd assume just spray it on like you would if you were spray painting anything else. Not sure about clear coating and what not

I plasti-dipped my rims a few weeks ago and it holds up great. Dipyourcar.com has a lot of great videos on the best way to do wheels, trim, etc. Hell they've even done a whole car with the stuff. I did four coats on each wheel. The first being a light coat to promote adhesion. Then from there more wetter coats but becareful not to get any runs. Good even strokes will get you a great result.

Dismounting will give you better coverage but it can be done with the tires on.

Prep the surface like normal, and spray a light coat, and continue with 2 or more even light coats, and finally a decent final coat. It's not hard to come off, just rub your finger across it and rub. Get a piece and you can pull it off in bigger pieces. The only time you run into problems removing it is if you do a really really light coat and done. This stuff is very forgiving, not hard to apply or remove.

thats awesome and it kinda worries me is it easy to blend if a piece comes off? one more question when you say prep the surface normally do you mean clean it and sand it lightly?

Sure, just throw on another coat and focus a little more on the missing spot. Like I said this stuff is pretty forgiving. For prep, just use some brake cleaner to clean the surface and allow it to dry. Then throw on some coats of plastidip, no sanding needed. Just a clean surface.

And there is tons of places that sell it online Kurt.

I plastidipped my front and rear facia along with my mirrors and driving through a cornfield to get back to a bonfire caused it to scuff it and in two spots peeled it up. I just said screw it and walked outside with more plasti dip the next day and covered it up. If you stand with ur face next to it you can tell but from bout 5 ft away you cant tell.

If you have any home department stores i think theyd probly carry it by their spray paints. I got mine from Menards but id think like Home Depot or Lowes would have it too.

At Menards it was like 5 or 6 bucks for an 11 oz can too.

The rule of thumb is a can per wheel. Chances are you will have half a can left over.

This is all assuming you do 4-5 coats per wheel.

I usually use one can per wheel. The flakes you see is on available online and dipyourcar.com. They have a YouTube channel tht you should check out. Everything you want to know about Plastidip you can find there
