VHT nightshade is prolly best for ur tails, to bad i cant do it tho cause i wasted 90 dollars on tinting them and now i cant sand down and clean my tails cause it will ruin the tint so guess i cant VHT mine =\
I wish I knew what you were talking about. If it's tinted it can be "cleaned" off and ready for a retint. Why you'd strip of your tint to REPLACE it with VHT is BEYOND me. The BEST way to tint tails, is to use clearcoat mixed with a little bit of black and break out the spray gun. VHT is just the cheap alternative and has a bluish-purplish "hue" to it.
The best way!! Putting black in the clearcoat is now the best way its your BEST way. I have been reading on this for months on the autobody forums and its not the best way to do them. Alot of people are using a mixture of HOK as a basecoat then clearcoating them and Flip is using waterborne as a tint then clearcoating over it. Thats why his have the wet look to them. Waterborne is costly tho. He's only one of a few people doing them that way do to the cost too. I like shiny tail lights and I would like to do mine myself someday but its maybe easier to get them done by someone else.
vht is the cheap way out. Im done posting on this comment because I have read to much info on it and people that dont do it will not understand.
Listen, VHT, or watever the f*ck it's called, haters... I put that sh*t on & it looks awesome. Didn't like how it looked at first so I had to sand all the original try off & try again. After I put JUUUST enough to kinda cover the original look I let it dry then used some sort of clear coat crap I have laying around from Ho Depot. I think it's polyurethene IIRC. I put it on pretty thick & once that dried it gave it a sweet very glossy nice look/ coat. Be careful with that stuff. After my original try it came out too dark & some b*tch followed me to work 1 day years ago & called the Cops 'cause she claimed she almost rear ended me at a light in broad daylight at about 8am on a sunny day. Stupid DAB. Prolly talkin on her f*ckin' phone & she wanted to blame the pimp taillights 4 her driving like a retard, Lol :D The 2nd time I tried applying it I laid out the taillights on newspaper in sunlight & put on just enough to darken them slightly. I've also seen kits u can but offline where u can leave the lights alone but put like a tinted lens over the light. I actually saw one in person once on a GTP & it looked good. Look into those dude. They're not much. That way u can have the best of both worlds :D
VHT will shine its ass off if done right.
...... you obviously know nothing. You're supposed to tint on the outside. If you use high grit paper and don't try to punch through it, you won't scrape anything off, and if you did, you go down, take a few layers off, add another layer or two of fresh tint, sand, clear, sand, clear, sand, clear, sand, buff, wax.
I've done it before, I've done paint before, I know HOW to do it, but it's an art, and one that I'm not so very good at, which is why Mike did my second set.
I can tell that you're 15-16 and this is your first car and the first time you've done anything just by the way you type, and what you say.
Honestly, I simply was trying to give you some advice.
just trying to help out. honestly, feel free to paint a random piece of plastic, when it's dry, sand it down, clear coat it, etc, final sand with HIGH grit paper (ie 1500-2000), hand buff it, give it a little wax, and if you're any good at it, it should look like a nicely paint, random ass piece of plastic.
the washing and drying and between is almost a given. after you sand it, if you have a bunch of **** on it, just clean it off. just make sure to give it good dry time.
has anyone ever tried this stuff? Smoke Black-Out Taillight Tint Smoked Head Fog Tail Light Tinted Vinyl Film K | eBay
I'm sure plenty use it, but the shape of our tails make it extremely hard to use something like this...
you mean the ripples? i have some euro style (was on car when i bought it) which is why i want the tint. but they are smooth
Might be okay on those. I had those once too. Such ugly tails. LED or stock for this guy here.
I'd kill for a nice set of stockers to lightly tint. Then again, their price would kill me in return...
Am I the only one who wishes they did the hexagonal mesh design (like our grilles) inside our tail lights like they did in the F-bodies?
That would be soo sick.
vht em and mask off the reverse light like 06 gto's
