So I got myself a license plate filler because I'm really starting to hate the license plate in the front. However it is illegal in Wisconsin to not have one on the front bumper so I'm thinking of getting on of those show n go license plate holders for it. I just don't know whether or not to put it on the right or the left. Basically I am looking for suggestions and even pics if you have done this to your 97-03 GP. Or maybe there is a law about what side it has to be on if its not in the center? Any insight and helpp is greatly appreciated.

if you put it in the window make sure it's secured down somehow otherwise you could be eating it if you ever get into an accident.

Not going to put it in the front window. I went to the police station a few months back and asked the cop if it was okay to be displayed in the front window and he said it has to be somewhere on the front bumper. Plus like you pointed out it becomes a hazard in a car accident and I don't want to have that extra danger lurking.

you can relocate it to behind the front air dam if you zip tie it in the right place so you can still see it. otherwise dead center is really the only clean place youve got considering you have fog lights.

Yea. I know what you mean. Is it legal to bend it so you can still see the Wisconsin and the numbers?

it is also illegal in Ohio not to have a front plate, but I ran my GP for years without it. Was pulled over once and not even asked about it. I would say leave it off unless you are scared of cops harrassing you. Just my 2 cents....

It's illegal in CT as well. However I ran about 4 years w/o.

Anyhow.. why not get a fliip up plate holder. It sits under the front lip and takes up very little room. Then if you get pulled over, you say, you just washed the car (requires a constantly cleaned car) and that you must have left it down. Hop out..slide it up and poof...plate.

    Something like this

I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Thats what I was going to use. Just not sure which side I wanted it on or if it was supposed to be on a certain side if it wasn't in the middle.

If you do choose to remove it, and you live in a state that does inspections, be sure to re attach it when you go for inspec. A friend of mine lost his front plate and had to buy a new set to get a sticker.

The front plate doesn't have a sticker on it anyway I dont think. It seems like it should be alright to bend it as long as I leave it so you can see the state and the numbers and letters on it. No state inspections here luckily.

I'm pretty sure any tampering with a plate is illegal and they can make u get new ones! Not 100% tho.

    License plates

State law* requires that when WisDOT issues two license plates, both plates must be attached to the vehicle, one on the front and one on the rear. The plates must be maintained in a legible condition and displayed so that they can be seen and read. License plate brackets that cover any part of the readable message on a license plate are illegal.

From what I get out of that is that I can bend it as long as you can still read it.

    Thanks for that post simbah.
