This idea was originally thought up by DrunkNMonkey so I take no credit other than to give him his due credit!!!
Well I got mine together today. I really liked how it came out! The wiring on my '03 was a bit different than DrunkN's though. I simply had a Black and two White wires leading off my 3rd brake light. I also took a bit different route in using vampire taps that have the spade connector at the end. I didnt really feel like sitting upside down cutting and splicing those puppies.
The only thing I messed up on was the drill hole for the wiring on the bumper. I am probably about 1/4" off from what DrunkN's is. But I was able to pull it over a bit to make it more center. And unless you are super pickie, you won't really notice it. Also pulling it back over helped me to better hide the wires coming out of the LED strip.
I used 18 gauge wiring instead of stereo wiring as well. And soddered the tips together at the end of the 18 gauge and the LED wire. The LED wiring is super thin so I wrapped it really good around the 18 gauge and hit it with some soder to make sure it held and then used electrical tape and scrinkwrap around it to secure it nice and tight.
Thanks for the great idea DrunkN!!!!!!
Here are my photos of the work
Here are the taps I used to connect to the 3rd brake light.
Here you can see my initial drill point and how I was off a bit.
Here is the corrected version after I noticed the error.
Here is drill hole into the same location as DrunkN's. I used a nonsilicone based sealer cover up the hole.
Here is the 18 gauge wire sodderred to the LED wiring.
Here is a picture of the initial test to make sure they worked. The LED wiring was not marked for positive or negative, so I had to do a little testing to make sure I had the right connections. I got it on the second try
And here a few shots I took when everything was put back into place.
