Thread: Vinyl installations

I have a 2 foot by 2 foot vinyl for my back window ready to go on. However, Im not sure if i feel comfy installing somethig like that myself just because of the size. A small decal I would have no problem being confident I could get all the bubbles out and flat on the window. SO I was thinking of having it profesionally installed. Any advice? DO you think I should try it or wait?

If you take a spray bottle with water and a lil bit of soap, you can keep the decal wet and prevent it from adhering as soon as it touches your window. Once you get it where you want it, use a credit card (or something similar) and squeegy out the bubbles

Hmm interesting tactics. Im half way in a rush due to moving next wednesday. Ive been waiting to hear back from a place that my buddy got his done at... with no response so Im half fed up at this point

Reflective concepts advises against doing the soap trick for their reflective ones, their stock vinyls they say go nuts..

What is this 2x2 vinyl of??

I'll second that. The reflective ones are almost just like a sticker. They have an adhesive backing that can be ruined with soap and water. Regular vinyls however it is perfect for. I used that technique on my rear non reflective inlays, allows for repositioning and such.

always did the 1-3 drops (some say add more) of dish washer soap + water in a spray bottle. did this on non-reflective that are on my car. also did that on REFLECTIVE on my buddies car last season. No problems so far.

To answer it its the Decepticon symbol nice and big for my back window. Not an inlay. However, Im thinking about doing some inlays soo too :P

Water with a few drops of baby oil as well works.

When I did my big back window one a couple weeks ago, we measured like a mofo. Then took a sharpie and drew corner placeholders where the corners needed to be. Lay it down from on corner than work your way down. Probably a lot easier with two people doing it.

If its not the one that gets ruined by alot of water and soap in my opinion just soak the crap out of that thing so that when it hits your roof you give your self plenty of time to get it situated the way you want it. Also once its on your roof spray the top of the vinyl so when your using a credit card or what ever you use to get the bubbles of water out its not dry and you rip the vinyl....ive ripped alot of tint making that dumb rushfull mistake where i dont wet it good enough and you go to squeegee it and it rips cause its too dry. Then work your way from the center out that way you start moving all the water and air bubbles twords the edges. And if all fails in getting them last little air bubbles out use a heat gun to get rid of them or find the smalles needle you can find and poke a small hole and get the air out that way. My rule for back windows on cars and if i would do a big piece of vinyl is ALWAYS have a friend back you up because your gonna just mess up the placement of it and its gonna be a million times harder to do.
