Hey guys recently I noticed my black housing headlights for my 97 gp have started to peel. Like some type of thin coating perhaps a cheap clear coat of some sort? I live in hot-ass Florida and have had these for about a year now has anyone heard this? Any advice on how to fix it? If pics are needed I can get em. Thanks guys!

Are you running HIDS? Ive noticed that there seems to be some sort of clear coat peelage going on in m foglight housing. I know its due to my HIDs down there heating it up. The only way I could see fixing the problem would be to either crack open and re-paint it or just get new headlights. Arent they pretty cheap for you 97-03 guys anyways?

Is it the outside that is peeling? If it is you can just sand them down or use a headlight repair kit like the 3M kit.

Yes it is definitely the outside I can literally scrape it off with my nail! What grit would you use? And I thought the kit was intended for lights that undergo oxidation over time? I just dont want my headlights looking all brushed and blurry

The headlight kit will remove all of the clear coat that is peeling. The kit won't damage them. I forget what type grit to use but there are plenty of write ups on here. Once you do it, you can use some clear coat on the lenses so they don't turn yellow with the coating removed.
