Take your time with the prep work man... Don't use anything like 80 grit or 60... The lower the number in grit the rougher the sand paper is and it WILL eat into that fiber glass... You should be just fine using 180 and letting the sander and sand paper do the work. I think the idea with the stripes is cool also.. I cant wait to see this finished.

I personally love that SLP stripe package but i like it with the spoiler and hood combo. I'd rock it! Black on white would look killer.

I didn't know that just getting the old paint off would be like 10 hours of labor I mean I knew the only reason getting body work done was so expensive was becasuse of the prep work but this is insane I'm starting to wonder if Im oing omthing wrong Im just going at it with a dewalt orbital sander atleast I think its an orbital... with 180 and then when I get to the last primer coat I switch to 220 and go down to the gel coat

normal prep wouldnt take that long, but you are removing SEVERAL coats of paint, that takes time if you dont want your hood to look like a dog chewed on it.

theres what I want so I droped the hood off at the shop they said it could be up to 400-500 just for prep and then 300-400 for the paint and about a week untill its ready to paint... so all together in this hood I might have $1500

my hood and front bumper were painted by an autobody student....

you do realize that the professor of the course has to watch their work, right?

i went to school and work full time at a autobody shop.

yea the teacher would be over your shoulder like a hawk, but when you have 13+ cars being worked on at the same time, its hard to keep tabs on everyone ... so mistakes are made.

that and not all places are the same I'm sure and even if the instuctor knew what he was doing and told the students how to do the stuff an experenced painter is going to do a much better job than the best student because he has the experience
