This gets my vote for being really informative. We need to either get this over to the how to area or sticky it.
Speaking of vote everyone. If you find a post that is really informative or has information that is hard to find, or has details like no other, PLEASE take the time to vote for it at the top using the Rate Thread link. It only takes a second and will help those that come here at some point in the future sort through the threads. If you see one with a 4 or 5 star rating, it saves a lot of hassle in going into each thread to see if it has what you are looking for.
as far as removing the ashtray assembly, first remove the pull out part (i think there's tabs to push in on the outsides) and then there should be one bolt on each side up front, and one back in at the top towards the back of the dash (should be able to feel the head.....
Well I wont add my ways of doing things because you seem to have plenty of info on hpw to paint. But I would add this to say and show as long as you keep up with it, meaning cleaning it regularly and waxing it you wont have a problem with noticeable scratches. I polish my center console when ever I do a main interior cleaning usually once every two months and its shinny as the day it came out of the booth.
and if you prep well you can use all spray bomb...works fine for me...
Just like body work...
The prep work makes the paint job.
You could have the best painter in the world, but if the prep work is horrible, his work will look horrible.
Thats one reasion why the guy who painte dmy car went to work for himself. He was the painter, but they had others doing the body work. Because painting was the last step of the rebuild or what ever, he got blamed for how it turned out. He said enough was enough and opened his own business.
I did all the prep work on my entire call so when he got it, all he had to do was wipe it down and mask it off and shoot it. he complemented me on the work, and i complemented him on his. He asked why I didn't paint it, as he knows I have all the equipment to do it, and I told him, cause if you don't paint a car all the time, getting back into doing it makes you make mistakes. Runs, missed spots etc. I said for THIS car, its worth it to have you do it cause I wanted it done right. It was well worth the money spent.

Im doing this to my car this weekend!!!
Going to revive this ancient thread for us n00bz... this is excellent for me, because I had a shop do a horrible job on my dash. I got a refund and I'm going to do it my damn self.
i redid everything on the inside that was plastic and most of its white, the rest is black and then with my blue interior lights off the white looks really good
lol CF wrapping will definitely be the shiznit. I guess I'll post pics of the shop's botch-job next to my finished results sometime tomorrow... just got back from grabbing some adhesion promoter. I also found an old Daytona Dash faux-CF kit laying around my dad's attic. I won't be using all of the pieces, but a few will surely make it into the car, such as the DIC surround and the headlight and foglight switch backgrounds.
A soldering iron on those plastic rivets and the vents pop out a soldering iron or some jb weld and when they go back in ash tray is held in with two screws you have to pull the tray all the way out to get to them it removes as a unit
How in the hell did you get your shifter off to take out the center dash peice? I would like to finish mine and i cant.
ok will the shift button pop out or will it stay in place? im just worried about the reinstal. If i cant get the shift button back where it should be then im f***
