Hey everybody! I'm really new at all this, but I have recently taken a lot of pride in my 2002 Grand Prix GT and am looking on ways to improve the looks and condition of my car. I want to keep it mostly stock and real clean, but one of the interior modifications I am trying to do is a custom phone mount for my HTC Evo 4G. I recently bought this mount for it and was thinking I could cut off the suction end and place it in the small compartment in front of the shifter. Then I could fill it with some resin and finish it off for a nice custom look. Does anyone have any experience with this? Please help a noob out! I am pretty handy and have plenty of tools, just not the auto detailing experience. Any ideas, please let me know. Thanks!

why don't you go to a junkyard and get a dash piece, and fabricate the holder to the front hole? or something like that...

Not really sure I want to go to that length. Thats a bigger project than I think I am cut out for. Plus, with the small compartment, it would be a real easy replacement peice to order if I want to change back to the stock interior. I have no plans on selling the car any time soon, but I cant say the same about upgrading my phone!

I'm on this type of project myself. I want the mount to be movable and yet..look as stock as possible. No time currently, but I have the parts and when time allows... I'll update if you haven't give me further ideas by then.

You could always do the vehicle specific mount from Pro-Fit. I have one for my XM radio and it is nice and clean. Easy to install and you can mount any kind of device mount to it.

Well, here is the final product. I went to Auto Zone and got some real high strength plastic epoxy and went ahead and cut the phone mount on an angle as to fit right in flush with the compartment. I sanded down the surfaces and joined them. Then I took my box cutters and carefully cut the rubber tray lining to fit around. It's a little light on the botton, so it wobbles a very small amount when you go to touch it, but other than that, it's a pretty clean looking install. I might try to weigh down the bottom of the compartment on the other side byu attaching some heavy metal plates with some screws so that its heavier like a paper weight, but still hidden from plain sight. Tell me what you think. Unfortunately no pictures with actual phone in mount because my phone is my camera, but hopefully you get the idea...

Ok, I'm seriously laughing about this. I got the ProFit bracket this weekend and the girl is out of town. Put it in last night too.

Looks pretty good. You have a little more to work with than I did. The profit bracket isn't the smartest/easiest to install, yet I did it w/o any issues. Then used some sheet metal screws to hold the car dock to it. Overall it looks decent. I should hide the cord. Will get pics when I have a moment.
