Here's some before and after pics of my previous car. '98 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I had never wet sanded anything like this before.

Man that hood looks great! What did you use to paint it with?

I didn't paint it. That's the same paint that's in the before pic.

That's wet sanded, buffed, glazed, and waxed.

Same stuff in the link I posted.

    Helmsman Spar Urethane. Gloss.

    Made by Minwax.

Also, it's mixed 50/50 with mineral spirits to make it flow easy. Just the urethane alone is too thick to get a nice even coat.

This is the link I got the idea from.

And where he got the idea

Headlight Restoration-new UV sealant idea - Auto Geek Online Auto Detailing Forum

The urethane is made for outdoors. It had very good UV protection. Person in that post says even better than the OEM stuff that came on the lights to begin with. Even if it's only just as good, that's fine with me. For the cost it's worth it. Plus, if they yellow again, I would not mind doing them. It took very little time, at least for me.

I did the 3M kit on my headlights and fog/signals around 220,000 kms. Still looking great a year later after a winter of Canadian highway driving at 300,000 kms. I followed the instructions in the kit, but probably spent a little extra time on each step. I'd recommend it, very simple and well worth the $15 it was on sale for.

I never tried the 3M Kits. But, I probably have $20 in the urethane and mineral spirits. I already had the buffer and pads and compounds. Actually got a steal on that. But, I can do a ton of lights with all this compared to a kit.
