Hey guys i need to get some paint so i can paint my rear bumper, a mirror, and my hood after i put on my ss scoop. Anyway, does anyone know a good place/site to get paint that will match factory. I have redfire mettalic if you want but i dont know the code off the top of my head? I've found a few sites but it seems that it all is extremely expensive and premixed. I feel like whenever it isn't factory i see the colors going a lot cheaper and you mix 1 to 1 or watever, so you basically end up with double the paint if you know what i'm saying. Anyways, does anyone know of any cheaper places and also roughly how much paint im talking?

I'm sure you have local automotive paint supply shops. Take the paint code there and they can get you what you need.

Research only helps so much. Prep is everything in painting. Even then if you don't know what you are doing its not going to come out good. On top of that red is always expensive. If you screw it up and have to do it more than once then you may as well have taken it to a shop in the first place.

Sherwin Williams does have an auto paint division.

From my personal experience and opinion I would find a place that sells Dupont, and Nason. Nason is basically the "generic" Dupont, but made by Dupont at a generic price.

x2 on prepping it properly...It really isn't super hard but you want it to be totally clean and have a decent gun to spray with. The Sherwin Williams automotive paints are fine if you have one close to you

me coming from a bodyshop, nason sells generic colors, but they can be mixed to match your color. the paintcode should be on a tag under the decklid btw. theres other brands to look at Spies hecker, sikkens, lesonal, dupont, ppg, Basf. i would suggest spies personaly

You could also take a piece of your car into any good automotive paint dealer and they should have a camera that can look at the paint and be able to match it perfectly. You want the color to match the car not what it use to look like from the factory.

hmm those are all good ideas. i think i might bring the paintcode to see what they come up with, but also bring a piece for perfect match

macco can do your bumpers for like $150 each. i know its macco but they'll probably do a better job than you on your first try. painting is an acquired skill, youre not going to do it right the first time.

me too but if its just the bumpers and you bring them off the car they cant overspray and messed it up. you can take out the orange peal in the paint with a nice detail job too.

    I wouldn't let Maaco paint a Huffy.

The problem is this. Paint is not cheap. Neither is the labor to do a good paint job. Thats why good paint shops charge $2000 or more for a good paint job. When Maaco can somehow charge $400 to paint an ENTIRE CAR, something doesn't add up. The paint is garabage, and the work is sub sub subpar.

i went to a local body shop a few years back for my truck to paint a grill and the part that tucks under the bumper,(old one needed to be replace and the replacement wasn't a match) and i paid like 60 bucks, and at a later date had a fender replaced, ins job, but for 30 bucks more they repainted my door sills, the paint wore off from sliding my leg and feet on it for 4 years, perfect match every time, most shops have the paint codes.

just check the shop before hand to see what kind of work they do,( you always see cars 1/2 done sitting around) and if you like what you see, ask for a price for what you need done, is always cheaper if you bring them the parts to be painted, and faster.

if you take them the parts then you run a chance of them not matching. the body will be faded out and the bumpers will look brand new
