I'd say give or take 30 rattle cans. Unless you have a professional system...

    Then probably many gallons.

If you are using automotive paint- 2 pints should suffice.

Years ago I painted my 88 Dodge Daytona with 3 coats of automotive paint and I think I still had more than 1/2 gallon left over from the gallon I started out with.

Okay so how large is the vehicle? If you're doing a color change you're taking doors, hood, fenders, decklid, etc off and jambing them. For a large vehicle such as a truck estimate approximately a gallon and a half to two gallons for a small vehicle such as a car approximately a gallon to a gallon and a half. You'll want your primer-sealer sprayed until coverage, approximately three coats of base coat and two to three coats of clearcoat this way you dont have to worry about cutting through if you buff the car a lot.
