Strolling through Advance Auto last weekend I found this kit for black vehicles. It consists of a 2 step cleaner/wax system. Everything you need to use the Black Box product is included except microfiber rags, which you will definately need a few of. The kit includes 2 applicators, 2 bottles of Black Spray Detailer, 1 bottle of Black Cleaner/Conditioner (step 1), and 1 bottle of Black Carnauba Wax (step 2) For around $20 this is a great way to get that black vehicle to shine with all its glory
How to:
I used a Craftsman buffer to apply both Steps 1 and 2. My buffer is rated at 2800 rpm and did the job well! You do not need a buffer to apply this product, but it is another option besides using elbow grease. Also, if you do not want black hands it is not a bad idea to wear gloves. Found this out the hard way!
First I washed the car the old fashioned way, a pale and RainX car wash. After drying the Prix, I moved it into the garage to keep the paint surface cool and out of the sun. I then used the Meguiars Clay Bar Kit to remove unwanted contaminants from the paint and to fill in minor blemishes.
Next I began to apply the 1st Step, which is a Cleaner to prepare for Step 2. It also fills in and hides minor blemishes, swirl marks, etc. I put a haze over the entire vehicle instead of doing sections at a time. By the time I had made the loop around the car, the place I had started was dry and ready to be removed. Using the detailer and a clean microfiber towel I removed Step 1.
For Step 2 I repeated everything from the 1st Step. This is the Black Carbauba Wax step, which adds a fantastic deep gloss black finish. I used a new application pad on the buffer when applying and a clean microfiber rag to remove. I then did a once over with the detailer to ensure all of the Cleaner and Wax was removed.
This is a great product for those of us with black vehicles. It does however consume alot of time. From start to finish the project took me about 7 hours, but I am fairly obsessed with details so it could definately be done faster. Overall, it is well worth the $20 price tag! The old GP has never looked better.
