getrag 284 (91-93 lumina, grand prix, cutlass supreme)

swap, its not to bad realistically but picture this, the interior has to be stripped, seats, carpet, dash, steering column has to be dropped down, pedal assembly removed, you get the picture...

ok so i am drooling because it is stick....i would love to convert mine but i didnt realize their was n e manual trans that bolted up to the 3800....did u have to get like an adaptor plate made or something like that...about how many hours did it take you from start to finish...details please if i could make my car stick it would make it 100x's more enjoyable to drive imo

also what i can expect to pay for all of this trans, parts, etc, and i assume new computer or something along those lines

i dont have a cardomain, i know i need to make a sig but im going to wait till i go to the dyno to put my new numbers on it

the trans bolts right up, the 3.8 is the same bolt pattern as 2.8/3.1/3100/3400/ 3.4 dohc/ 2.2 sfi/ ect ect ect, its Gm small corporate bolt pattern,

in my introduction thread theres a complete link to my build, i could proably do this all in a long weekend working long hours, about 30 hours of work or so.

i was running the stock pcm (well cartuing turbo pcm) for a bit with a bunch of codes for no auto of course.

my clutch was 729 + shipping,, transmissions go for about 1k if the wreckers know what they have, i typically sell them for 400-600 bucks for just the trans as i always have some kicking around.

best bet is to buy a gtp/ z34 with the 5-speed, then you will have all the swap parts minus a couple little things

trans from gm is 3700 bucks, 400 slave cylinder, 250 master cylinder, 800 for a clutch kit, 225 per chifter cable ect.

so buying new would be very costly. the trans in my car doesnt even have 30k miles on it yet, i had a very good donor car. (i have recently gotten a trans with 150 miles on it (rebuilt) so i may swap that in in the near future when i do a cam or something.

thanxs for the info i am going to have to keep my eyes open for a deal...i got some time yet before i will have the disposable income to do the build but i am definitly pumped and am gunna try to put a plan together for this....but like everything else i think about doing in a few months i may decide its not worth the extra cash or time and just save money and sell this thing it two years when i get my degree

I know this is about your paint but a 5 speed? Thats awesome! So tell all of us slushbox drivers about how much better a 5 speed is! Is the gas mileage any better? Do you go through clutches? I have so many more questions, this is what I said as soon as I bought my car " I wish it were a 5 speed"! Have you done a full write up on this upgrade? Please do with lots of pics, awesome car thanks for sharing!

You reaaallllllly love your car man, respect for all the work you've done. I know you said you could do it in 30 hours but my brain still can't fathom the amount of work that you put into this.
