Thread: HID Flickering with relay harness ?

So i purchased a 6000k 35w HID kit off of ebay. Maybe this was a mistake, but for $40 dollars i figured i'd give it a try. My problem is that after I installed the kit with a relay harness, i get the flickering. This happens when the car isn't started and when it is. It happens on both bulbs. I tried just hooking the kit up to stock harness without the relay and it didn't work like i figured. I also noticed when i was driving today that when the headlights were on my DIC and where the temp is displayed flickers as well. I tested the battery and its putting out 14.4V. I checked and made sure I had a good ground with bare metal and I do. Everything is hooked up correct because I have checked it like 5 times. I switched the left ballast to the right and vice versa with no luck. Is this just a faulty kit? Or is there a possible solution to this annoying problem? Thanks in advance for the help.

Umm.. Yea gotta watch out for those cheap ebay kits. I had one and all it did was flicker. Is it a Xentec kit? If so I would advise you get rid of it.

Crap i posted this in the wrong area Sorry. Yes it is unfortunately. Also another thing i forgot to mention is that i did pull the fuse for the DRL and Auto lights. What are some decent HID's that wont break the bank? I should be able to get these replaced for free seeing as I JUST bought them. I would like to try to fix this before sending it all back though.

I got VVME HID Kit. It cost about $85 to ship a slim ballast kit (better then normal ballast) and a relay harness. Cost a little more but better quality.

i got ripped off then. i have a different kit, 8000k, cost me $130ish shipped and the low beams are still halogen. and believe it or not, they're dimmer than factory. the brights are amazing though. best thing is i didn't have to do anything with a different harness. straight plug and play, just had to plug one wire into the ballast

Ok so I finally got an email back from the seller of the HID kit. He will be sending me a replacement kit and testing it BEFORE he sends it. So hopefully he will get me a kit that works. I for sure wont be buying from ebay again. Looks like VVME is the way to go from now on. Thank you for all the suggestions.

Yea your lucky, when I had my Xentec kit, the guy said I had to pay for shipping both ways to get a new ballast. Kinda pissed me off... then I just sold the kit to some ricer.

i didn't do any research, clicked on the first link on google, and was wayyyy too excited to care. lesson learned. i'm happy with them though, so it's all good i guess

yeah, VVME HIDs are do good quality and cheap stuff... i have run 2 set of vvme hid for 2 years... and also flicker for a litle while then went away and never came back again.... the lights became more and more bright after warming up......

agreed.... that is how i transfer to VVME hid 35w(wanna upgrade to 55w with relay harness) from crappy ddm HID (once got defective ballasts and bad customer servie from them)

so whats better 5000k or 6000k? im lookn for white light.... my gtp is red and that doesnt realy go good with blue lights. also probly a 35w kit, i herd 55w can get a little hot

I had a 35w 5000K kit. It had the slightest bit of yellow in it, it was mostly white though. I upgraded to a 55w 6000K kit and it has the slightest bit of blue in it. So if you're looking for white, maybe you should get a 55w 5000K kit. Don't be scared of what other people say about 55w kits... I've been running one for the longest time now, install is as simple as a 35w kit as well...

thanx i may just go with a 35w 6000k and deal with alittle blue, but does the 55w kit realy make a differance, i just bought all new crystal black headlights and dont want to burn them....i dont want to overdraw my battery either. is there anything else i should do because of the HID kit, like and error code delete or messing with the DRL wiring? im probly going to go with a VVME kit, everyone seems to like them.

Well you absolutely need DRL's disabled otherwise your car will ruin the ballast by not giving them full voltage during day driving.

I always play it safe and get a relay harness for each kit I buy.. regardless if it's a 35w or 55w kit. It's only $10 more and it's better to be safe. A 55w kit will require a relay harness. Some people say you don't need a relay harness for a 35w kit. It's up to you, but I'd be save and get one.

No need for an error code delete, our cars are not that electrically binded like some foreign cars are.

I noticed a stronger beam from my 55w kit as opposed to my 35w kit. They project more usable light since it's a stronger beam ya know. I doubt you'll ruin the housings, I have 55w in afermarket projectors and they are holding up fine.

if you dont use DRL for long time, it's better to disable it ....
no only 55w HID kit need relay, some 35w kits also need relay to hook up the ballasts..... it is up to your car model and compatibility...

vvme 35w 6k is your good choice for bright white color with slight blue tint.. but if your car has can-bus system and will send out wrong message or error code, it's better to install error canceller to delete error code...
