OK so I have been out of the customizing world for many years and am looking to get back into modding one of my new cars. I rememebr when an HID kit was in $1k range. I have been looking at doing HID in my 03 GP, I have read all the HID posts on here and on CGP and am a little confused. I keep seeing things about the bulbs not being aimed right and having to modify the mountings. Is this something that was needed on the early units or is it still a problem to work with.

I am looking at this set.http://www.wholesalehid.com/product.php?pid=28/

    I would appreciate any input.

There are two reasons they give poor output. One is simply the characteristics of the light source, which you can do nothing to change.

Halogen filament vs. HID arc characteristics:

    Taken from this site.

The other is the positioning of the arc. You really have no way of knowing whether your bulbs are aligned properly until you get them.

Here are some hints on measuring and/or adjusting your arc position:

The way the light is directed has as much to do with how well you see as the total amount of light. You'll see better with a properly designed halogen setup than with a poorly focused HID setup. Unless you're willing to modify your bulbs like in BackinBlack's thread, go with a good premium halogen bulb (I personally think the Philips Xtreme Power is the best 9007 available).
