No almost all of GM factory hoods were NOT painted...just their way of cutting costs and saving money. They would install that underhood piece and paint AROUND it.

100%. Think about it. So the idea is that an engine fire would get so hot that it would melt the plastic retainers holding it on? And then fall on the burning engine and smother it? Have you ever seen a car after an engine fire? lol its the first thing to go! Anyways, its more to keep the engine noise in the engine bay then to protect the paint but the auto manufacture's will tell you its for sound and heat. I doubt it would ever hurt your paint taking it off.

protect the paint my ass. my paint hasnt done anything since ive taken that thing off.

Like I said, its more to keep sound out. I dont believe the heat from the engine will do anything. But I know one thing for sure, its not there to extinguish fires.

Do you guys think it will matter if I don't use high heat spray paint?
Re: any way to paint hood liner?
just do it in LIGHT coats... if you do heavy coats, the liner just soaks the paint in... do ALOT of LIGHT coats
