Thread: Is this low enough?

A guy just brought a truck to me wanting to get some supsension work done (lowering). But the kicker is it is his daily driver and is already lowered. Not like 2 inches, but seriously it looks like its bagged it is so low. I told him he needs to go bags if he wants to go lower and have to redo that crossmember in the middle of it, if he wants to keep it drivable in the least bit. I told him I would do it, however he wanted, but in my opinion he didn't need to. I told him to think about it then call me later.
The truck is a 2005 Chevy Colorado, here is a pic I snapped before he left just for reference.

not super low, but pretty friggin low.


What do you guys think, should I just say screw it and not try to save him his money. I am in business to make money for myself, but I aint going to tell somebody to spend money that really doesn't need to, especially since his truck rides nice as is (I took it for a spin before he left to see how it rode).

x2. Integrity is hard to find in business. There are too many people who will sell someone anything they ask for regardless of whether it'll meet their needs or wants.

Well his ride really won't suffer since his only option is bags, they really ride nice. That doesn't mean he wont be happy though. I told him his ride might get a "little" better but it wont be worth the 3k or so price tag. It would be cool, but for a daily, def. not practical.

Yeah it is possible to go lower w/o bags, but I really don't think chopping lowerings springs down (I checked hehas the lowest spring/leaf combo available) would be a good idea for any business. So that is why I said if he wanted lower, he would have to go bags especially if I was doing the work.

I called him today and gave him a number of a shop that I am friends with the owner and told him I am to booked up to do anything. (Which was sort of a lie.) My free time between Best Buy and my Upholstery/Fabrication Business, I do have is taken up by this forum, haha. Worth every second though.

Well I can't talk I had a silverado that was my dail for a little while, that would crush those mini soda cans with its frame, does't get much lower. haha

Have to agree. Good to see a business/member with integrity. I wish more stuck to what's right and not just the almighty $dollar$. If I ever need the work done (bags, interior, etc.) I will contact you. Not sure 2008 will see it though, depends on how business is this year and plans.

I used to have a Colorado that was lowered 3" and that was about as far as you can go without some major pain in the ass work. Even at 3" the front tires rub in inner fender on big bumps, even with stiffer shocks, and that silly cross member rubs on speed bumps. You can buy a new cross member that fits up inside the frame rails though. The big issues is the front inner fenders, and to go lower you will need to cut them out and move the battery and a few other things. They are not nearly as lower friendly as the S-10 was. There are plenty of people that have bagged them, but it is just a lot of work.

I'd say keep it where it is but make sure he has a skid plate underneath. He's not really going to gain anything by going lower unless he want's to sit the frame on the ground when he stops to show it. I'd tell him straight that he really doesn't need it but if he really want it then do it. Being honest with him will definitely pay off in the future when he mentions your work and reputation!
