So, my GTP had some faded paint on the side sills, so I removed and painted them. They looked great for about 4 years but now the paint is all chalky again.

I'm considering wrapping them in black vinyl this time around- anyone do this or think it's a good/ bad idea?

    How they look currently:

    TIA!

those are the B pillar moldings. they take a beating dont they?
I think if you wrap them, they might not fit together well. I;d scuff them and repaint, and use a good quality clear coat.

They do indeed. Good call on the fitment, hadn't considered that.

I used good paint and cleared them, these don't flake, they're just getting like faded and chalky.

you didnt paint yours 10 years ago, base coat has to be uv stable, clear coat has to be uv stable get the picture? Mine still shiny 5 years later. Your prep work also dictates what the future holds.

Why you smart mouthing? What you've been told is correct. Vinyl will not last longer than professional automotive refinish paint. Looks like you used lacquer before so it may wipe off with thinner. I suggest repainting them with a catalyzed product. Clear coat is not necessary.

Relax Holmes, I'm just messing around. I used good paint, what can I say, maybe I got a bad batch. I have my answer, thanks for stopping by.

Once you get them refinished, make sure you keep them waxed with the rest of the car. I think a lot of people overlook these when waxing, and that's why it's common to see them faded.

OK Jose, did you remove the original finish and prime the metal? I believe they anodized aluminum and nothing good usually happens if you paint over that. I suggest sanding everything off the face of the panel and using a proper primer this time if it wasn't done the first time.

    Let's go sentence by sentence.

    1. I'm not Jose, but thank you because my name is Spanish sounds very much like Heiney (my name is James)
    2. Who exactly is it that anodized aluminum and who is this they everyone talks about?
    3. This is autobody 101: get down to the metal, make sure it's all clean and properly prep the surface including primer. Thanks, I didn't ask, but this might help someone else.

You called me Holmes. You don't know me. Insert the word "are" in the sentence with anodized in it, after "they". I left a word out.
