Thread: Crooked Corner Lights

Why are my corners so crooked? I've tried shimming the bottom of them with weather stripping, and also tried body shims on the headight mounts to lower the whole assembly. Nothing works. Even when I grab the light with my hand and try and "twist" or "move" it to where it should be, I can barely do so. Any ideas? I don't mind a little sag, but they look horrible! It's like the more I touch them, the worse they get.

July 2010, the first day I had the car:






November 2011, the day I put on the clear corners:

August 2016: I put some stock corners on so I can repair one of the clear corners:

It gives the car a certain... Sad and dejected look. All of the mounts and brackets look good? Maybe some rust on the supports under the bumper or behind the fender?

The only thing I can see is that the tabs on the corner lights that clip into the headlight bracket are broken, so I had zap straps holding them in place. I am pretty sure that isn't the issue. Its almost like the headlight bracket is supposed to clip into something on the fender.

Maybe those tabs helped to angle the corners up? Other than zip tying the corners into the fenders... Lol

They only line up the corners to the headlight bracket. Besides, those are brand new stock corners in the last two pics, and they ain't sitting straight.

From what I can tell, the problem is with the headlight bracket or how it mounts.

Did you cut out anything with the retrofits?

Just the back of the housing, nothing "mounting" related....





Picture #1 shows a stock light with sag, so it must be a GP thing. LOL

that's a clean 40th, I would have kept it. lol

It might be how the headlights are aimed...if you adjust the headlights all the way down, they'll probably raise the corners.

might have to do some custom mounting to keep those retros pointing the right way. lol

I've had 3 sets of those lights over the years, and always re-use the stock headlight mount as it is far better quality. And here we are. LOL

Yours looked like they were sitting pretty good. I'd be happy with that.

The headlight housings move within the mount, so headlight adjustment is not a factor. I'm trying not to re-invent the wheel here. I assuming that there is a logical reason for this problem, as I've seen other GP's with the same depressed look. LOL

On the outer edge, yes it clips to the headlight bracket. The inner part has a long screw that holds them in place.

I'm assuming you've tried shimming that screw with washers or a spacer?

and there's nothing inside the fender that would hold the headlight bracket in place?

If you can't tell, I'm out of ideas. lol

The screw goes in one way and goes top to bottom. There is no adjustment to be had without me hogging out the holes.

Not that I can tell. I have clearance between the back of the headlight and the rad support, and it looks all good around the corner light. I can pull the corner light up with my hand, but it is a lot of force and doesn't feel right.

If you can't tell, I'm out of ideas. lol

Its been put together wrong the whole time, I think. One of the hokey-assed-est designs I've ever seen. I'll see if I can't scare up a visual (says the man who also has crooked corners but is a bodyman so thats OK)

You guys are right and I can't really say whats up with your car, BB. Theres nothing else that the lamp or mount panel connects to out at the tip. Due to the design, the positioning is semi-approximate-ish at the fender. But in all your pics they look level with the headlight at the inside end.

I wonder if your headlight mount panels have been replaced. Aftermarket ones could explain it, as could improper installation of lamp or mount panel. But if you're getting all the tabs in the right slots (for both mount panel to car and panel to lamp which can be tough to do since it really can't be looked at while installing), and they fit like this... you'll probably have to make new slots in the mount panel to raise the outside corner of the lamp. Dremel City.

FWIW, the tip of the mount panel usually needs to sit inside the fender / bumper edge. Some cars need it to sit against that but I believe its supposed to just hang out there and not touch anything.
