Thread: the worst has happened, FIXABLE???

Driver wasn't paying attention, The GS is now badly bruised. Fixable???

that blows. fender hood rad support bumper cover and maybe more.

as long as its not your fault your covered one way or another.

I've fixed worse, but each accident is different. Don't let your insurance total it.

Fixable? Always. Worth it? Not always. My GP GT took a hit like that but more in the wheel, less in the bumper bar. I fixed it, slowly.

I can see a few hundred in parts just getting everything from a junkyard. The Impact bar took a fair shot, so the unibody structure may be off. That paired with the flattened upper apron area ( behind top of fender ) you'll find with fender off almost guarantees it. But it may be within the range of fitting new parts and adjusting everything. Never know until you try. This sucks because you need a lot of parts and some actual bodywork behind the outer stuff.That blows, good luck on it.

Yeah, they were at fault. Not sure how they consider it totalled but they wanna see if the damage exceeds the value of the car

It probably will. What you need to decide is whether you want to keep the car for a few hundred or pay the difference between actual full repair cost of having it fixed and the insurance settlement. I'd shop for a replacement right now and "keep the salvage".

That's about as much damage as my T-Bird got, and the insurance company wrote her off; over $4000 for them to repair. I wanted to keep her and fix her myself, but didn't have the time and space to do so at the time.

So shop for a replacement but still keep my car?

Yes and no. In my location, no this will not alter the title to indicate salvage, rebuilt, or reconstructed or whatever word you like if you keep it and accept the price the insurer offers. Should be nice right now because scrap metal is low, not worth much. Here, we don't have to pay for a new title because one is not issued. It stays the same and is not branded, just "transferred" momentarily. If you sell the salvage to the insurer, the new title is marked then. If you keep it, the old title stays clear and remains in your name. Lots of cars have salvage titles just because people are rich and lazy and believe "throw away and buy new" is the solution to everything. "Hooray" for them. I'm poor and know how to fix cars so I "keep the salvage", fix, and drive or sell with no messy title label. Both my FWD GPs have been a "total monetary loss" twice but both titles are clear.

A rebuilt title is not an indicator of significant damage necessarily, more often it just reflects the low value of the vehicle and that it has needed some repair at some point. Keep that in mind as you shop for a replacement to use while your favorite one is down being fixed.
