the minute you drop to a 3.4 pulley on a blower... you have already maxxed out what a stock tanny was designed to handle.
like what was said before...... just a matter of when.

Ya, but isn't a S/C worse on a Tranny then Turbo?
Okay called ZZP! The bolt on will work for the L32 he said it will bolt up pretty much perfect! But he said he would just sale the GEN 5 and not worry about the block off plate. He said I could get more money from doing that and it really wouldnt make a difference in hp. Sooo! Im glad I know for a fact it will bolt on. He also of course told me about the PCM. I told him what I wanted to do with the 05 ECM and he said they would just treat my car like the 05. So!! its getting closer and closer to time!! im soo excited!!!
An M90 car will eat transmissions more on a launch or through a hard shift while the turbo cars make more power and tend to break things through a pull, that and because of the much higher HP that a turbo car makes and solid torque curve through each gear it is harder on the clutches. An M90 car strives on torque to get the job done and will make less HP but has more instant low end torque. Once a turbo spools that battle is over! Any way you slice it the stock trans is going to be very short lived even if all you do is spin the tires the first two gears because the chains will likely give way through a pull while in a gear. It is also going to slip pretty bad during shifts stock and if a hardpart doesnt break first the clutches will be cooked in a short matter of time. An input shaft and chain upgrade are mandatory but the trans has to be built properly to handle the power also-firmer/quicker shifts to handle the added power and this requires more than an off the shelf shift kit
I just got done looking at your site! haha. So what tranny would be the best? Also if I buy it from you do you install it or just build and sale them??
All of my transmissions are custom built to match the car and power level you are or plan to run. You can send me an email for specifics on pricing but you are going to need an upgraded input shaft, single chain conversion, and an upgraded torque converter would also be a good idea with a turbo car so the stall speed will work better to allow the turbo to spool and also to handle the extra power you will be making. I do very limited installs depending on my schedule but it is an option and I also have a local hotel I use for out of town customers at a discounted rate.
Okay!! Well it will be around Jan mid Feb when I start to get everything. I was just in Cloverdale, IN about 3 weeks ago. But when it gets closer to time and I get everything in line I will send you a list of all the specs.
Good info, I was on the same path and the general opinion was not if but when. 400hp is gonna be the death of your stock tranny. I have since decided to hold off on the high HP numbers and start with a solid foundation. Gonna have a tranny built for what I have planned in the future. I figure its worth the delay. Better to have a solid tranny now than a fast car broken down in the driveway.
Yes! I so agree! Like my dad said..."Ya, it will be nice to have a 400whp family car but 400WHP can't do much without a tranny" lol
that would make a great slogan!
Why would you use your credit to buid something thats going to end up costing more in the end? Just my opinion but if I cant pay cash for it I dont need it. Unless its a transmission in my daily driver that pays the bills....but to each his or her own.
...Im paying cash for everything..lol If it was credit I would have already had everything!
EDIT: My 07 GP is PAID for. So my hard earn savings/income tax is going to mods.
Awesome! =)
why not go supercharged? im going low 13's and trapping 104mph on a 3.4 pulley.
My car is supercharged. I also invested over 5K in my GTP just to run High 12-13s But I never ran it after I upgraded the pulley on my Whipple set up . I have never owned a turbo car and woould love to! And it would be WAY different.
well you were doing something wrong if you put 5grand into the M90 and didnt go anywhere. im $1800 into it and im in the 12's.
Whipples weren't cheap.
sHE HAS A WHIPPLE. And where in the hell did you get a whipple from?
I ordered it about 3yrs ago from the website. I don't think they make them for the Grand Prix anymore. I paid right around 3K for it and all the supporting mods. And then I built the tranny up.
