Thread: Cooling down my IATs in my Twincharged Setup

Ok, this has got me thinking about my cooling problem, and I've got some ideas floating around in my head. I want this to be a serious discussion, I ask that people stay on topic and not stray off on the topic of Twincharged vs Turbo. I am keeping my setup, I just need to tweak it a little.

Has anyone tried stacking the supercharger intercoolers? I think I have the hood clearance (4" cowl hood) to run two, I'll confirm this later. Let us assume I do have the clearance, I would of course run two pumps and two FMHEs. I think I would bite the bullet and cut my front bumper support and license plate hole in order to run two stacked FrozenBoost 24x12x1 FMHEs. How long are the stock bolts for the Gen III blower? I would need to increase this bolt length by 4.5", so I need to figure out of such bolts even exist.

Any input on this?

Being SRS, I noticed that in the pics on the dyno thread, your turbo did not have a wrap/cover on it could that also help.

I have a blanket on the exhaust side, are you talking about putting on on the intake side too?

Do you think you could fit a turbo intercooler under the bumper?

Oh sorry, I edited my post. Ok , well hmmm. You have a blanket on the exhaust side. Don't see why the intake side would need one. Not sure from here, I was going off what others had done in their builds. Hope you get it worked out.

I also assume you already blocked the coolant ports for the SC?

Another idea that was suggested in the other thread is to run a A2A Intercooler after the turbocharger and before the supercharger. This would mean two front mounts...which one should go in front? The A2W or the A2A?

Meth idea sounds good.

I would think a 4.5" bar and plate core would be more effective than two stacked heater cores. Note in the 2" range the heater core is somehow the best option.

You might want to consider a gen v instead of a 3. Also perhaps a 4.0 pulley. I believe max had some made up.

Meth or go with A2A IC after turbo and before SC. I know in your post you were talking about not having much room because of the trans cooler, FMHE, and fan setup that you currently have but there are A2A IC's that are out there that aren't 3" thick...maybe try looking for one that would fit your current application.

I vote A2A because of the simplicity and reliability. No moving parts and it always working for you (when the car is moving)

If space is the issue I'd say ditch the current FMHE that you have and go with the VW radiator that everyone uses. It's very thin and effective. It will help free up some space to fit a decent size A2A intercooler in there to work in conjunction with your current setup.

meth works great on turbo setups. it sucks that you're still gonna be blowing it through the m90, but it'll still help.

get the stuff called water wetter for your SC ic, it will help drop the coolant temps in there. Your best bet is to get an IC for the turbo, weather it be a a2w or a2a. I know you said you dont have much room but it has been done so there is a way to make it fit.
