No if anything you want to boost oil volume as much as you can, since your engine now has to pump oil out to the turbo.

Cool, I was hoping to leave it in place, heard some chatter about too much psi on the turbo feed line being an issue... I believe there is a 6psi limiter on the turbo inlet anyway..

    Thanks.. saved me some work

Forget the guys name, was on 3800pro, talking about modding the block's oiling system and polishing the channels near the oil pump.

Believe it was the guy who works with sinister drag designs?

From what i read he didn't get that far, but he was redrilling passages to main bearings, looking into a larger diameter pickup tube and so on.

Actually James probably finished that before documenting it.

On the oil pressure, I'd pull it. I've heard that turbos shouldn't be running the higher pressure. But then...is our pressure really that high?
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Ya, go through all the work of pulling out an oil pump when you could... just... buy an oil restrictor! Zing!

Turbos at most need like 1/8 to 1/4 of max pressure of what most oiling systems run stock from the factory. I run mine like this: oil filter neck > oil AN fitting > oil line > tiny "filter" > oil restrictor/AN fitting > turbo.

The only way to find out what psi your turbo needs is to call or contact the company who makes it and see what they recommend. Do you have an oil pressure gauge to see what your at now?

Your right Snappy.. or are you? Oil pressure isn't controlled inside the pump. It's 4 bolts on the oil filter adapter. Thanks for playing, come again.

Restricting doesn't change the pressure, it modifies the volume. If your turbo seals blow out from high oil pressure, then you shouldn't have high oil pressure.

    Alright, well thanks..

I do have a mechanical oil pressure gauge running off a stainless -4AN line
The gauge is a expensive Autometer which was **** from day 1 (the rebound spring don't work, so i need a new one)

pretty sure i see 60-100psi at times .. but before that I had a electric and the damn thing was stupid.. haha

anyway, I'm going to take it out as it seems unnecessary.

    Thanks guys

    Ty

On the oil pressure, I'd pull IT.
Ya, because IT is so very descriptive and informative. We all know exactly what you are talking about.

Restricting doesn't change the pressure, it modifies the volume. If your turbo seals blow out from high oil pressure, then you shouldn't have high oil pressure.
For someone that pretends to know it all... you really dont know it all. And just to prove a point Ive pulled a quote from Garret so that I dont appear like a know it all that assumes I actually know it all: "The use of an oil restrictor can (but not always) help ensure that you have the proper oil flow/pressure entering the turbocharger, as well as extract the maximum performance."

Of course the restrictor will decrease volume, but... do you honestly believe that something a fraction of the size of the actual oil feed line wont restrict pressure as well? How do you think a fuel pressure regulator works?

    EDIT:
It's 4 bolts on the oil filter adapter.
Ya, the four bolts control oil pressure. If your remove the bolts one by one then pressure and flow drop by 25% per bolt. Thats how you fine tune your oil pressure and volume.

Billboost, everything you stated is WRONG. Pressure is directly affected by restriction. If I blow air thru a half inch straw and measure the pressure on the end will it be the same if I blow the same amount of air thru a quarter inch straw? I think not.

LOL, at the know it all stuff. I learn new stuff every day Tengis and am happy to do so. Constantly am saying "I don't know everything" and admit to having been wrong many times in life. Personally I hope to continue that for many more years, it's called humble. Hop back off your inflatable horse, because she's got a leak that you need to patch.

The quote you grabbed says flow, not pressure. I'm very new to turbos and clearly you have more experience in this arena. On the four bolts, it should be clear to someone with your background that the pressure relief "valve" is accessed by pulling the filter adapter and not the pump.

How's about you guys take some Pamprin to help with those cramps and give the OP good information with facts to explain why I'm wrong and how best to build up his ride.

Found this info on Turbo 101 by Googling. http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbob...o_tech101.html
Doesn't go into a lot of detail about oil, but does have some and it doesn't appear that it's as worried about the pressure as it is the amount of volume.

I know whats inside the oil filter neck. I was being an ass since you said it was the four bolts. Bottom line is that the oil restrictor bring down both pressure and volume.

we always run 04+ motors on big builds and no issues, you do need an oil rstrictor on the turbo forsure though
02 Grand Prix GT Intercooled turbo 5-speed 718whp 618wtq @ 21psi 7575 billet, spool valve, custom manifolds, 4" downpipe, 16way adjustable coilovers, 18x9.5 with 275's all around, gxp interior, gxp brakes
tilton triple disc, custom aluminum flywheel, tilton slave and master, an awful lot more

you made a good point sir.

All I did was buy the 2005+ oil bypass spring and install that a couple years ago.
    gonna keep it in.
