shooting for 500+hp on a L26 is a horrible idea.... L26 rods suck.

PCM tuning is pretty useless to 99.9% of the people that post on this forum... You can pretty much run "base tune" stuff on a mechanically sound motor easier than trying to fix mechanical issues with tuning bandaids.

The more I tune cars, the less I tune cars, lol.

Which isn't the way to go about it...since mail order tunes aren't the best thing smokin'....I'd rather do it the right way the first time; I see where your coming from.

every mailorder tune I see is basically either a shift kit, or an attempt to fix something that is stereotypically mechanically lacking.

A tune simply should be correcting fueling and a few other odds and ends.

If the motor is setup properly you shouldn't need to fool around with the tune much at all to get it running well.

    incorrect sir

Stronger powdered metal sinter forged connecting rods are used in 2004+ supercharged, and 2005+ naturally aspirated engines, instead of the cast iron style from Series II engines.

The powdered metal connecting rods were meant to be introduced in 2004 along with the L32's, but the GM plant in Bay City, Michigan that supplies the Flint, Michigan plant could not achieve the desired production dates in time for that engine year.

The new motor is an L26 from a 2008 I believe with 16,xxx Kilometers on it.

not even going to get into the tuning topic here - some of you are not understanding what can be done / is required to support a performance build.

running well and achieving max safe power is a big difference.
I'll let you have that since you are being so vauge.

I would not be happy having my car running just "well"

There are too many variables left unknown.

    On the rods...

    They are sintered powdered metal.

    Not forged.

Also smallest of the four rods installed by GM in series II/III motors.

Smallest by a very large margin I might add.. I would MUCH rather have L36 rods.

Oh, and I like that you posted something that I posted on wiki, to try to argue against me, that was great.

Howards Racing Components Powder-Metal Forged Rods

    woooooo.

    seems they are forged.

    But they're still tiny.

Buick V6 engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

smaller = lighter = less rotating mass

    haha

so who has thrown / broke a rod on a L26? haven't came across that yet.

    increased downward pressure.

    more stress on rod.

    rod is smaller.

    more prone to snapping.

If you were building a n/a motor, sure, L26 rods would be ideal.
