First time I'll have visited the track in the 2 months I've had the car. I'm no stranger to the dragstrip. Been down it many times in my S10 and Camaro but I have a few quick questions. Car is a 2000 2 door GTP with 107k miles on it. Intake only. I'm expecting a 14.8-15.2 The cheap Tiger Paw tires actually hook up really well on the street. It won't even brake completely loose on a really slick road. It'll just squeal the hell out of them. The elevation at the track is only about 600 feet. Temperature is gonna be right at 60 degrees
1st question. Should I leave it in drive and let it go through the lights in 3rd or bump it back into 2nd so I go through the lights without it having to shift that extra time? IDK if this is common with these cars but if you leave mine in drive it shifts into 2nd at 6000 RPM but hits 3rd at 5500. That's why I'm asking if I should leave it in 2nd and stretch it out close to 6000.
2nd question. Should I brake stall it when I launch it or does this help any with these cars? And if so how hard should I stall it?
You may be thinking just run the car and find out! Well that would normally be the plan but I'll probably only get a chance to run it twice so I'd like to know what seems to work the best without having to make a dozen passes.
