HighOctaneRacing vs BillBoost37 (w/ BadAssGTPGirl riding along in my whip)

It was a brisk September night when Sam, Bill and I called it a day after drinking beer and shooting the **** while working on his house. We headed onto the highway to go home but the fun wasn’t over yet. After we merged onto the highway, we separated with Bill driving a little faster than me and getting ahead. In time I was able to see him up the road a bit and decided to speed up to run side to side with him. As I was approaching the side of his Regal, he waved his hand up and down to tell me to slow down. I obliged and when our rides were parallel, I looked over at Bill and he gave me a nod then floored it. In a split second I reacted by putting the pedal to the metal in my Grand Prix and off we go racing on a straight stretch on 291. With both cars engines chugging to the max and with each shift almost being dead on, we couldn’t get ahead of each other for more than a quarter of the length of our cars. By the final shift, we were side by side going 120 MPH with grins bigger than the Grinch on Christmas eve and with Sam in my passenger seat saying “oh, my god”. We saw a swarm of vehicles ahead of us and decided to call the race. We started screaming at each other saying “nice” “Side by side the whole time” “that was good” and we agreed that we had tied. I told him wait till I get the ER rockers and he smiled and nodded and we both went our separate ways. It was a fun night and a good way to end the summer.

    My current mods
    Overkill 87 Tune
    ZZP Catless DP
    GMPP F&R Sways
    GMPP STBs w/ Brackets

(Remember ’06 GPs have 3.29 gearing stock)

    * I stand corrected. I have 3.05 gearing. It's all good

Mods will improve in time lol

BillBoost37 My mods: Bought the car at 160K, currently at 246K. Assume all parts have 86K unless denoted differently.

    Engine:
2007 Lucerne L26 pulled from the donor at 50K miles (I've added 40K to that)
    TB adapter (from last motor)
    L67 TB (from last motor)
    L67 injectors (from last motor)
    Plog
L36 fuel rail (Sven picked it up on his way the day after I swapped)
ZZP wire from alt to relay center
3" DP with HF cat into stock GTP catback
Open cone K&N (Looking to go back to stock airbox for noise reduction)
That is literally it for the mods on the motor. Not a gasket or anything was swapped when it was dropped in, not even an injector o-ring.

Trans: (originally redone from Bonneville parts for the GS while it was SC) Put in at 186K miles, I've put almost 60K on it.
CP/VB done by Dave at TEP for the Bonneville's power level
Clutches are off the shelf local supplier clearanced to reasonable specs
    Hardened 4th clutch hub
    2.93 gear ratio
Aluminum finned pan (cause Max gave it to me)
Welded ISS reluctor wheel. (I'm Bill..that crap was never going to be an issue again )
Beyond the magic put into the VB/CP by Dave, that's all that's really special about it.

Suspension: This is gonna be a long list
    F Body calipers up front
R1 Concepts slotted rotors and pads
HS Motorsports rear lateral arms, drag arms and toe links
04 GP rear knuckles and calipers (cause wheel bearings on 97-03 suck)
SS brake line hoses front and rear
Aluminum front cradle (it was $50 or some nonsense like that)
    Fresh control arms
GMPP sway bars with urethane bushings
    Urethane front end links
    Moog rear end links
    GR2 Struts
    Vogtland springs
    Monroe strut mounts
    Lucerne Super 18" rims
    Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS PP tires
Front and rear stock GM STB's

    Misc:
    Turn signal mirrors
Puddle lights (burned out, haven't replaced ..have the parts)
    Projector headlights a buddy made
BMW rear trunk lid lip spoiler (painted by Demonte)
    New AC compressor this spring
Used PS pump about to go in
Missing one fog for the last 3 years

    Interior:
GP heated elements in the seats (seats didn't have heat in them)
    Stock heated switches
    DVD touchscreen HU
    Backup camera
    Boston acoustics speakers/tweeters and sub
    Knu wiring
    Boston 5 channel amp
    HD radio kit as well
    Tint 35% all around
Crapton of sound deadening (second skin audio)
Sludge (sound deadening in doors and trunk lid (second skin)
removed monsoon amp and much of it's wiring
Homelink mirror (autodim and compass as well)
    HUD
    Aeroforce

As you can read.. a lot of weight was added. Is the car tuned you ask.. well .. can't run the L26 on an L67 tune. So kind of. I setup a basic file to have it run, raised shift points for the lesser power motor slightly. Beyond that I have the same trans tune that Scotty recently fell in love with in it. Currently I'm getting 23% LTFT's and need to consider tuning for that. Ask any locals as much as you'd like.... I really haven't done much to the car since putting it together.

On the shelf is a set of springs, retainers and ER rockers. Doubt I'll bother to put them in. There's no time and I have no caring to do the work.

We headed onto the highway to go home but the fun wasn’t over yet. After we merged onto the highway, we separated with Bill driving at 65mph aka speed limit and me driving like a damn turtle. In time I realized Bill slowed down to 56mph and finally got along side of him while he sang.. "I can't drive 55". As I was approaching the side of his Regal, he waved his hand up and down to tell me to slow down because the cops like to sit at the turn around just ahead. I obliged and looked over at Bill, he then gave me a nod it was clear and he floored it and let right back off, after about 3 seconds I reacted by putting the pedal to the metal in my Grand Prix and he stuffed the pedal back down on the Regal of Amazingness. We were off route 91 (291 is further down the road). With both engines kicking out ground shaking power, we each pulled ever so slightly as the shifts happen at different times from our ratios being different. Neither of us could get ahead much until Bill pulled a Dragon out of the backseat and used a rope to have it help pull him ahead. At that moment, I pulled out my LGBT rainbow unicorn and it helped me close the gap once again. Meanwhile the shifts were making Samm's breasts bounce like the girl in Drunkie's avatar. Seeing a bunch of cars ahead we hit the brakes. We were both impressed that we basically sat side by side. Consider the only real difference besides year is the gear ratio. I told him wait till I get the ER rockers and he smiled and nodded because he was unable to hear me, and we both went our separate ways. It was a fun night and a good way to end the summer.
That's how it really happened! Racin, Dragons, Unicorns and titties! That's the way of all good stories.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Hell..then we were closer in gearing than I thought.

Kyle.. I did hit it.. and let off to give you a chance to hit it. Starting off before a guy is an advantage and ... well the Regal is slow enough that it wouldn't matter if I win or lose. I did start putting my window up as you hit the next gear (excess drag lol) and caught back up from that little extra pull I had for a couple of seconds. Reality is they are too darn close to say either won, if you'd like to claim it... feel free, and I'll agree. It was good fun either way and that's often a lot better than either taking the other by bus lengths.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
