My brother (Ford fanboy) recently bought an 03 Mustang GT with 5 speed. Himself, along with a few others, consistently felt the need to explain to me how his car is going to blow me away because there's no way "a FWD V-6 will beat a rear wheel drive V-8". Ok, only one way to tell. Modifications to both cars are as follows

    2002 GTP
    Wizaired CAI
    ZZP 3 Inch downpipe
    ZZP PCM Tuned
    3.4 Pulley

    vs

    2003 Mustang GT 5 speed
    BBK CAI
    Aftermarket Mufflers (Possibly full catback)
    Bama Tuned

So we head out to a long stretch of road with no traffic. First run from a 10 MPH roll, we hit it the same exact time, I instantly pull a half a car on him and hold it to about 60, he slowly creeps on me and we run dead even, and I mean dead even until around 100 mph when we shut it down. Next run, 30 MPH roll, I pull the slight edge, he closes it and same as last run, we are running dead even. Two more runs and it's the same result. The 2 cars are very close matched. And FWIW, he can drive a stick very well. End of the day it wasn't a kill, but I took a typical swelled head mustang owner and gave him a run for his money. Nothing like running side by side with a RWD V-8 pony car with a FWD V-6. the look on his face was priceless. I am pretty sure once I get my autolite 104's, thermostat, plugs and poly motor mounts done I can beat him. Only time will tell

Thanks, it's hardly impressive though lol. I plan on modding more in the future, so does he.

Well with the fact that you don't even have a PLOG and your running a ZZP 1.0 I find it impressive.

Nice runs. Being a GT of that year only having ~260hp and having to wind up the mod motor to get it moving you should be able to pull a bit more once you get some flow mods (headers) and a solid tune. While I don't own a 'stang (yet), I respect the V6's out there as most of them put out at least the same amount of horse, if not more. Get caught sleeping and bang- race over lol...

Headers would be awesome but are just not in the budget right now, or the near future for that matter. Not to mention I just bought my zzp downpipe which would be worthless if I bought headers. I have to decide how far I'm going to mod. If I don't decide to go too crazy with stuff I think ported manifolds/ PLOG should be sufficent for a long while.

As for your friend with the mustang tell him to put a 4.10 gear in the rear end. That will wake up his car like no tomorrow. ;-)

By the time you spend the money on the PLOG, ported rear manifold, and the what you spent on the Downpipe, you could of afforded headers. I wouldnt bother with a the PLOG and ported rear manifold. Save up $200ish and buy a set of Speed Daddy headers. They go for roughly $225 brand new on eBay, and you might be able to find a used set for even cheaper. Sell the downpipe you have when the time comes to help afford it. You could still easily get $60+ on it.

Thank you for the advice. The reason I went the Downpipe route is because I was warned against cheap headers and the only decent one's were TOG's and a few others in that price range.

    That's false.

Speed Daddy's are SLP knock-off. SLP is $800 new. The only bad about Speed Daddy's is that they have bend inbetween the flex and the downpipe that occasionally can get scraped, especially if lowered. And the flexpipe is hit or miss on those. Both are simple fixes. Other than that, they work great and 75% of 3800 people run these headers. Or so it feels like 75% lol

Do you have any links? I couldn't find them on their website, maybe I didn't look hard enough.

Are there any headers that don't come with the downpipe and would be compatible with my 3 inch ZZP? That way the purchase of the downpipe is not a total loss.

Just sell your downpipe once you get headers. I don't think any headers are compatible with that dp.
