So I have a 99 GTP bone stock and my dad has a 99 Cadillac Eldorado with the 4.6 northstar also bone stock. Ever since i've gotten my GTP he's kept running his mouth about racing me and how he'd whoop me and so on.. The specs are 240 hp and 280 ft. lbs. of torque for my GTP (I've heard the torque is quiet underrated and is more like 310 ft. lbs. I'm not sure if this is true though.) and 275 hp and 300 ft. lbs. of torque for the Edlorado... My GTP is supposed to be about 450lbs lighter though.. Should I go for it and try to prove him wrong? lol

You won't win. My Dad raced his STS agsint my step mom in her GTP. I didn't see the race but he won by quite a bit I guess.

I also have a N* powered car and I can tell you it's quite a bit quicker than my GTP.

Since you're stock odds are you're going to loose.

You dont have 310 LB-FT in your gtp.

The factory numbers are not underrated.

You will beat him off the line to about 75 then he might come up on your ass but i highly doubt it.

From what i've seen 1/4 mile time for the GTP is 14.7ish and 15.3ish for the Eldorado. 0-60 is the same story. You think I could get him off the line but he'd pull on me in the higher speeds?

I'll agree with Mike in that you'll beat him off the line. Getting a 4100LB FWD car off the line quick is hard. But even so he's not gonna be far behind. And as Mike said he'll catch you around 75. Only difference is when your car is fallin off around 90-100 that Eldo will keep pulling on you preety good all the way to 130-140, and slowly up to 150.
From a dig...you have a better chance, but you'll still end up loosing.
    From a 20-30 roll...it'll be even worse.

And why a thread for this? Why not just race?

14.7 is pretty optomistic....mine ran 15.44...and as said before..my N* is quitea bit quicker than my GTP.

all the google search 1/4 times i've read have them pretty even.

hp and torque arent the whole story or even most of the story. many factors.

i picked gtp b/c it can be modded easily.

    that is vs nstar v8

Well considering I have 119,000 miles it probably is more like mid 15ish. The Eldo has 172,000 miles though. I just wanted to get some peoples opinions before we went for it lol. Just curious

I will say you stand a better chance against this Eldo since you say it is the 275hp version. This also means it's got the 3.11 gears opposed to the 3.71's on the 300HP N*'s. So you dohave a chance. But against a 300HP/3.71 car you don't stand much chance.

Also i'm not sure of the time differences between the 275/3.20 vs the 300/3.71 cars.

The GTP has 2.93 gears I believe? Or am I way off lol. I think we plan to head to the drag strip when it gets warmer to find out for sure but i'm sure we'll head out on the street soon hah. From what you guys have said I should be able to give him a good run for his money in the 1/4 mile but I know he's kill me when we get up to high speeds. The GTP is limited to 127 I believe and the Eldo goes up to 150-155 I think.

I didn't find any numbers for the Eldo, mainly cause i'm too lazy to search long enough to find them. But going off the SLS times which have the same 275HP and 3.11 gears, the SLS is almost a full second slower 0-60 than my STS. 1/4 time i'm not sure but i'd say .3-.6 slower. So you prob do have a fighting chance agaisnt this Eldo.

Go out and practice your launch. If you can get that car off the line quick you can prob take him.

Yes the GTP has 2.93's...limited at 126...close enough to 127. Top speed on the Eldo will depend on the factory equipped tires. It might be limited at only 116 or it could be 155...just depends. Also...is this an ESC or an ETC?

ESC I believe.. I know its not the ETC and it is the 275 hp engine. Now that you mention the 116 limiter (which I didn't realize it existed) I believe I have maxed his Eldo out at 116 before now that I think of it...

Yup..ESC is the 275/3.11 cars. So yea it prob has a 116 limiter.
As said before go out and practice your launch. You honestly might be able to take him if you can get out of the hole quick enough.

I know for a fact my GTP spins like hell even with tcs so that will take work. The Eldo doesn't spin much so yeah i'll need to work on the launch..
