He doesn't want to drive that far for a tune, we've been over this in chat.
200 miles isn't far at all.
if you have a good friend with a truck or car with the capability's to tow it where ever, you just need to rent a tow dolly. fwd cars love tow dolly's.
your new best friend maybe?
I planned on going down there for a tune before i got my dhp but it's only 130 miles for me. I'm kinda right in the middle of intense, prj, and sinister.
id drive for a tune, but i dont want to pay the 500 dollars when i plan on getting a cam and porting and springs double roller chromolly rods and basically a whole new valve train with my quarterly or xmas bonus or tax refund.... i do have an extra pcm.. maybe i can just do my pulls at the local dyno... send someone my data and pcm and they send it back? i dunno how dyno tuning works in that respect.... i just dont want to waste money on stuff, if im going to get an extra 20 horse for 500 bucks then pay another to get tuned for cam and everything in a few months.... you see what im saying? i have high aspirations for my car, and i want to be smart and economial about it.... which i suppose is an oxymoron... and economical 10 second car? hahaha
I've never seen anyone that charges $500 for a tune.
Guy apparently you miss the point of a tune.
It isn't about gaining power...it's about making the car run at its optimum performance levels...and run right...with the right AFR, the right timing, right shifts, right everything.
And if you have high aspirations, then you're in the wrong platform...because after 13's, you'll be dumping tons of coin for minimal gains. Don't just think because you can put "X" part on your car you'll run "Y" time.
Doesn't happen that way.
ive been contemplating after i reach 13 flatish, getting a new school goat to play around with, no one is gonna talk **** about a 13 flat grand prix, and i love pontiac, also i have my eyes on a 54 chevy pickup that is almost dirt cheap and it just screams "throw a big block in me" i also do vintage motorcycles and cafe racers, i probably should have started smoking crack, i think its a cheaper addiction than going fast....
bleh i really sucked it up tonight.... granted my first time ever.... first run was 15.4 with a 2.3 60 foot, i was nervous and forgot to turn traction control off,my best was 14.53 with a 2.35 but i had a .35 reaction time the last time, i kept getting better and better, still cant launch very well imo keep spinning, but my damn boost wouldnt reach full, i think my belt is slipping or i have a vaccum leak? on the street i have no problem reaching 12lbs of boost, and i was hitting 5-6... it was also 93* outside today and 71 percent humidity.... and of course as soon as it starts to cool off they close the staging lanes.... i think a shift kit is in order for sure, i know i can do better, one of the guys i know with a cobalt ss ive beat him 2 out of the 3 times weve raced on the street, from a dig all 3 times and he got a 13.89 tonight, practive makes perfect, even my roomate who absolutely hates grand prixs said he knows im faster than that, my car just felt like a dog all aroung tonight, everyone who ran was *****ing about the heat, so i guess it wasnt just me.... i did beat an 11 second camaro cuz he faulted though... does that count as bragging rights? my best 60 foot was 2.21 i think i just need more practice
yeah yeah yeah, i'll break 14 next time i go out, new s/c belt, new boost solenoid thiny, (i broke off one of the vaccum lines during header install and just used bondo to fix it) also if its not 93 ****ing degress out, forecast said high of 84 today. i know excuses are like a s s holes but, i guess why thats test and tune night.... i have to say.... its alot harder than it looks haha. anyone have some slicks for sale?
thats what the thermometer on my dash said... and then i checked my weather channel app and it said that too, last friday i had to wear a hoodier i was a high of 65 that day and by 7pm it was down to 55.... damn midwest weather.... oh well, i figure i would have hit 14 flat if i could of drove today, i just dont know why the f my boost wasnt going past 6 psi! all week my lowest full boost reading was 8 and my max was 12.... i dont care though, i was having the worst day ever up untill i hit the staging lanes and know what.... its all good, i was just like... wait why was i pissed now?
LMFAO, bondo.
Guy...go fix your car correctly before going out and beating on it.
It's running like crap and it is slow because it is broke.
And a 2.3 60 foot...if it makes you feel any better I was close to that in a 130~ WHP Cobalt.
To add, reaction time doesn't make a sh1ts lick of difference either...you can sit at the staging lines for five minutes and still run a 15.2 @ 93.
And another rule of strip racing...personally, I never go to "beat people", it's all about practice and trying to get the best time. Go race something that runs 9's, I always got the best times racing cars way faster than mine.
yeah rwd cars you should always pull the drive shaft if towing a long distance, ( on a tow dolly) but being fwd, the back wheels are just a long for the ride so to say.
these are great for track use to, blow your car up and you still have a way home.
you can find them used for under 500, rent for a bout 100 a day from u haul. and they dont take up much room if you own it.
only thing is, dont try backing up with the car and dolly hooked to the truck, they jack knife easy. unless you really know how to back up a trailer well. these get tricky.
I dollied an Escort behind a Trailblazer from DE to Homa, LA. Had to leave the road at 60 once when a SS shovel fell off the truck in front of me.
Fun trip.
Why not just leave the escort? lol

i didnt go out to beat anyone, i just went out to go out, i tried to order a new boost bypass valve a while ago and the parts store gave me like an egr valve or something i was like uhhh? i only put bondo on it because it was 10 pm when i finished my header install cuz it was more of a pain than i thought, it seemed fine for a while, i was hoping to find an electric bypass valve because i think vaccum controled systems are kinda janky and you cant really ever tell when they go wrong, my first car was a 91 grand prix with a regular 3800 and god i hated the vaccum system on that thing, i ordered a new bypass off ZZP cuz i couldnt find one anywhere else, and got all new vacuum hoses, and a new s/c belt, even though it was fairly new, i figured they might have gotten coolant on them... i recently had to replace the coolant elbows a while ago.... i kept getting better times each run i made, so some more experience will help... my first 60 foot was like 2.7 and my last run was 2.2, also going to try the fuel pump rewire trick too, my fuel trims were going a little lean in 3rd gear, and i did race something that ran 9's haha my 3rd run was that 84 firebird i was talking about... 9.46 is what he ran... haha at least it was to a Pontiac right? next time i wont go when it was 93 degrees out with humidity up towards 80 percent either.... i do def need a real tune, i was happy with my canned tune untill firday night.... i still can figure out why autozone, advanced auto, napa and orileys dont have a boost bypass valve...
