So this past weekend Jamestown Drag Racing Association had their annual airport race at the airport just east of Jamestown, North dakota. Being my second time ever drag racing and first time with my GXP it was a blast. Saturday I was still figuring out my car and got out the first round but sunday was a different story. Sunday the GXP took me to round 4 out of 6 where I cut a bad light and failed to advance. This was their 11th year hosting this airport race and they just invested in their own porta-tree system and worked out most of the kinks. There is even talk about building a strip somewhere in the area but as of now I believe it is just talk.

Now for the questions. My GXP's fastest time was a 9.64 but it was more running in the 9.72 area. On the way home the group of us were thinking of ways to get her down to either a low 9 sec or high 8 while leaving it high way drivable. Any ideas anyone?

Yeah sorry should have specified. Up here in ND we have limited places to race at. The closest 1/4 is outside of Fargo . so we are limited to airport runways.

LS6 intake, CAI, cam, headers. you might need a built trans after those mods though :/
either way, you should get a transmission cooler, itll help keep less stress on your trans, stock or modded. especially on gxp's because the 5.3 generates alot of heat.

Well I don't know much about turbos so I would need to do a lot of research to get up to speed. As for engine mods wouldn't a cam mess with the active fuel management system or is that not a big deal to worry about?

im not sure if a cam would mess with it, but common sense tells me it would. im 90% positive you can get that tuned out.

Oh and I like the idea of a trans cooler any suggestions on what to get? If you haven't noticed already I'm kind of a newbie to modern cars. I have worked on several pre-electronic era cars

Built trans with slicks and gears.

Bet on it running in the mid to low 8's.

Also, mid 9's is on the higher side of what it should be running...14 flat or high 13's is a high 8 or very low 9 in the 1/8...you must be blowing the tires off and pulling some 2.3+ 60' times to get 1/8 miles like that.

yeah I was having a hard time with traction that day. The one decent one I got was a 9.64. I can't go too crazy with mods cause I still depend on it for transportation.

    Learn how to drive it.

2.0~ 60's or less are possible.

Just don't turn off the TCS and hammer on it.

I was only pre-loading it to a 1000 rpms and I did leave traction control on.
