So I decided to take my 05 gxp with 98k miles on it to the track.
All it has is a CAI.
Ran a 14.337, 14.335, and 14.556
I held second gear til the end, TC off.
Am I missing something? I thought our cars were suppose to run 14.2 stock?

Tires (and pressure), air temp, track prep all come into play.
Your car also has 98k miles, its not exactly new, so your times seem alright.
Track temp was 90, air temp was 81, Tire pressure was 40ish, track had glue I had a little tire spin not much just hammering on the light, I have a video let me try to get a link for you guys
30 psi would have been better, but I bet on a cooler night the car would pick up a tenth or two.
And maybe some 93 octane or race gas.
Crazy how you can throw a cam and a smaller pulley on a 3800 and usually run a faster time. Decent times for a gxp though
Lower the tire pressure to the mid to high 20's...
Remove the junk in the trunk if you didn't...jack, spare tire, etc.
Remove the headlight so you get more air in there...
Drive around the water box (don't do a burnout either...and "barking the tires to clean them off is hard on the input shafts...which these cars have a weak transmission anyways...)
Flip that dog bone mount if you haven't done it....better power transfer to the ground...less play under load (you can find how to do that if you haven't in my safely modding thread, as they are the same on a 3800).
Also, leave it in drive and try again Those cars also seem to gain some alright power from a cutout as well...I wouldn't do a electric one, just have a "Y" welded in before the cat and a 3 bolt flange put on there and undo it when you get to the track.
Lower side of 14's aren't that bad. Gotta remember it's a big FWD family sedan.
Thank you bluegtp91, trunk was empty but the tire/jack was still in there, I kept it in drive from 1st to 2nd then went to tap shift and held 2nd. I also drove around the waterbox. I may look into a cutout aswell for a few extra ponies and Ill try removing my headlight by the intake next time. Thanks for your tips!! I also read your motor mount flip and I may try that, if I do I will let you know.
TAPshift actually has been proven to slow the car down.
Either hold it in 2 until it hits redline and upshift to drive or leave it alone in drive. It's an automatic...that's what it does...shift for you so you don't kill the thing like using TAPshift
yeah I know I just put it in tap shift about 1/2 way down after it auto shifted into second just so it would not shift into third at the light and loose a few MPH
You should get a tuner so you can adjust for density altitude.
A good upgrade may be a Transgo shift kit. For the GTP it's cheap, easy to install, and very effective. I don't know about the GXP though.
Get that GXP tuned the stock tune is crazy weird doesn't go into to PE till like almost redline...my friend tuned his brothers GXP and the stock tune had alot of TM combined with the weird PE and hella rich AF...just tuning really woke up that LS motor that would be first on my list personally...just my 2 cents
Thanks all for the responces, I will look into a tune. I just dont know who or where around here where I live(milwaukee) there would be a one?Temp hit 220 after about 4 hot laps then I shut it down. The motor kept getting hot aswell on the return lane. I am looking into a thermostat 160 or 180? Aswell as hardwiring the fans to a switch.
