Just curious if my times were the normal for this year car, or if I'm slower than the norm.
05' GTP bone stock. Well maintained and recent tune up at the time, tires in almost new condition.
Clarksville TN track is 1/8 mile and no slips printed, unable to calculate anything except ET and MPH.
August 2010, about 85 degrees and 70-80% humidity. Clarksville is about 500' above sea level.
BF Goodrich Traction T/A's with 40 psi for fuel savings. Half tank of gas. I weigh 200lbs. Had junk in trunk and tools, kids car seats (no kids in them lol) So i estimated a track weight of about 4,000-ish?

First pass, T/C off: 10.5 in low to mid 70's mph, a friend watched from the sidelines and forgot the mph and only focused on ET. I rolled out to about 30' and stomped it only chirping the tires for a brief second. I left the car in first and it automatically shifted second as usual.

Second pass, same launch: 10.2 at just over 80.
Third pass was 10.6 but I think I spun too much, i got greedy.

Last pass I left the T/C on and did almost 11 I got beat by a riced out del sol too on that one.

I'm dissapointed with these times of course. But before I beat myself up too much I was just curious if this is normal, or too slow for what it should run? I'm no pro, and the track doesn't tell you reaction times so I am not super fast reflexes and would guess that my reaction time is really bad.

According to the 1/8-1/4mile calculators, this is around 15 seconds, which if I'm not mistaken is what car&driver and other mags published for the car at the time it was new. About 0-60 in 6.5 and 15 second 1/4 miles? I think the Comp G got 14.7 and the GXP was a 14.5 second car my year?

This was a spur of the moment run, I was new to the area and heard about the friday night test and tune and just wanted to check it out. I haven't had the chance to go back since.

I don't think reaction time is in your et.

-with no timeslips you cannot determine factors such as 60 ft time (your launch) so that sucks but you seem on par with what you should be running. heres a list of where you went wrong though, thing you can improve on for next time:

-TC always stays OFF when drag racing..when the the car notices lack of traction the pcm retards your timing/makes your car slower so that you regain traction safely.
-why race for best possible times with car seats, jack/tools, half tank of gas in the GTP? take that crap out. every 100 pounds of added weight= .1 in the quarter mile
-you rolled the car for a lil bit, you need to launch as high as possible to have traction and not break the tires loose
-it was very hot/humid for ya..that hurt your times a bit
-drop your front tire pressure down a bit and raise rears to maximum rated psi (less rolling mass)
-always line your car up straight as possible as to not have to correct yourself while racing, your times will suffer
-let the car cool down between runs, heat kills times
-shallow stage..this means to slowwwllyyyyy pull up until you BARELY trip the last yellow light. if you continue rolling for 20 more feet, well you have less room to get up to speed
-lastly, reaction times dont matter with times. your time does NOT start until your car moves. im sure youve seen videos of big turbo cars spoooling for a while after the light then BAM! trans brake gets released.

hope this all helps ya. HAVE FUN and report back to us

Hey, thats great tips American Soldier.I'm currently in JBAD Afghanistan and I'm almost halfway through this tour. When I get home I will go run my car again with your tips and see if I can beat my last runs before I set out to start modding. Hopefully that track is even still open, I heard the local community wanted to close it for noise pollution.

    lower rolling resistance.

    Mass doesnt change.

Lower tire pressure can help you hook a little better.

Something you'll have to play around with, but 29-30 would be a good place to start.

Most seem to run 34-35 for fuel economy.

    I hate to burst your bubble but a 10.2 1/8 is more like a 15.9 1/4.
    A 9.6 1/8 would be closer to a 15.0 in the quarter.

You didn't burst my bubble, I'm not the best driver so between not being prepared for the track and not being used to launching my car, I def have room for improvement.

I'm going to tune up my car and find a local dyno and get my car's baseline to make sure I'm making at least healthy stock power before I begin modding, my wife says the car has been real sluggish while I've been deployed and I know she's lying and using regular gas like I asked her not to.

Side question: anyone know a healthy stock dyno fwhp for an 05' GTP? I hear they can put down as much as 240whp with synthetic fluids and a fresh tune up?

They say ~260 CRANK hp out the factory, but after a fresh tune up (synthetics are not needed) I would say maybe 210-215 FWHP.

Alot of the power is lost through the transmission.

I made 202, 95% bonestock on my 2000 GTP, which they say is rated at ~240 crank HP.

Oh wow...that is less than I had hoped for

As for running regular gas...I'm just lucky she remembers to put gas in it period. lol

don't get too rapped up in hp numbers. You'd be surprised how fast one of these cars can scoot down the track with only 300whp. It's not the peak it's the average that matters.

I'm probably only going to be around 1/8 mile tracks, so I should probably just work on fastest 60' times then?
