It's a long read, but its oh-so worth it

So today, I was having a goof off day. Just relaxing with a few friends in the FL sun. Worked on my buddies 1995 Civic coupe, installing a new, full size radiator, since his old 1/2 size one burst.

The whole time he was teasing me about my DD. Which is a 1995 LT1 Chevy Wagon, which comes in just shy of 5000lbs on a scale. It's got some body damage on the rear drivers quarter panel, but other than that, its in great shape. Only mods are a 9" K&N filter to replace the factory filter (not a full intake) and 2.5" exhaust from the manifolds back with Summit Turbo mufflers)

Anyways, as we finished up, one of our buddies who drives a mean 5.2L Dodge pickemup truck showed up, wanting to know if we wanted to go swimming. So we cleaned up the Civic, and they both started in teasing me about my Old Lady wagon, and what a POS it is. I kept telling them at least its a damn LT1, and has more balls then both theirs combined....

Couple minutes later, we had some money on the line. Friend in the Dodge 1500 had $20 that he'd outrun me from a dig, and my buddy in the Civic raised the stakes to $100, since his car is 'modded'.

The Dodge is just straightpiped, redneck style, with a decent lift kit, and mud tires. The Civic is a 1.5L, header/full exhaust, gutted interior, different cam, VTEC controller, and some other crap, and it will actually launch pretty hard.

So..onto the racing.....

Lined up on an old, unused road with the Dodge and took off. Within the first 20mph, I already put my rear bumper at his front. By 40 I had about 1 car on him(or wagon if you will) and by 80 when I shut down, I had a good 5-6cars on him. When I stopped, he wanted to go again, saying he didnt get a good launch. We went again, and it was even worse for him, pulled a car length almost immediatly, and had a good 7-8cars on him by 80ish.

He paid up like a good sport, and my friend in the Honda snatched the $20 from my hand, saying it was as good as his.

He wanted to do 3 runs, whoever got 2 outta 3 won, so I was game. 1 from a dead stop, 1 from 30, and 1 from 50.

From a dead stop, he launched hard, and grabbed 2-3 cars on my pretty damn quickly, but by 40 or so, I was gaining pretty hard. I was passing him at 60, and by shutdown(closer to 90 this run) I had him by about 1/2 a car.

Totally different story from 30 though. We launched on the 3 honk, and I instantly had a car on him. I just kept putting distance on him up until 80or so, which I had around 3-4 cars on him.

He still wanted to go from 50, saying if he won this one, he'd only have to pay me $50. So we got next to each other, and went on his 3rd honk. Though this time he was already moving pretty good on the 3rd honk.....Same deal, took a little longer, but I did end up passing him around 75, and just nosing ahead by shutdown.

He *****ed out and said he missed 3rd on the last run, which I know he didnt, or I would have pulled on him stronger. Either way he paid $50, which was enough to fill up the tank.

Oh, and when we got to the local swimming hole, I got to rag on both of them, for a few hours, about their slow POS, Not grandma wagon, cars. XD
