my buddy just recently supercharged his 03 cavalier. its the 2.2L ecotec w/ a m62 supercharger! oh, and its a 5 speed w/ exhaust, intake, and a header.

i am stock w/ a brand new supercharger!

we raced on the freeway twice. 60mph roll 2 about 100. he took me both times by a car and a half.

then we raced from a dead stop. he was by my door til' about 65/70.

i'm pretty happy about it. his car weighing a ton less than mine. and for me being stock, i can't complain. and as of yesterday, he ran a 14.53.

with him running that, should he have killed me?

if he is running that time, then you must have a healthy runner. did you notice a big diff with a refurbished supercharger?? i was thinking about doing that and mine only has 70,000 on it. i figured they do get worn on. your car is deff a strong runner tho. congrats.

From what I have read where people have installed new rotors into their s/c they didn't really see much of a gain at all. IIRC it was like 1psi or less that they gained, and their old rotors had no teflon coating left on them.

Yep I spent the time and money replacing my COMPLETELY stipped rotors and saw no difference. The really bad part was they only had 20K miles and I gave them away, not knowing better.

Hmm, thats odd, unless of course there was some major failure on your old blower, and this new one is performing the way the old one should have.

ummm humm. well if your only boosting 2psi to begin with. and you get another 1psi out of it im sure it would make a difference. my question is would the superchareger spin up harder and faster if it were working more efecitly or would that really only be a noticable diff if you had more boost. stock boost you might not notice anything???

Usually the only bearings that get worn down are the snout bearings. IMO I couldnt forsee any concreate gains from just rebuilding one...unless it was in very bad shape.

It isn't that 1psi gain isn't gonne improve hp but it isn't worth the money it will cost, strictly my opinion though.

I kind of figured that was your situation, but I was talking for the average person to think they will see a huge difference by buying a brand new s/c, probably not. They would be better off spending that much money on other mods. Possibly even a used gen5 s/c.

yea. personally would of never bought a brand new one.

strange thing is that the pontiac dealer said "they can't replace the bearings, it has 2 be a whole new one"? that don't sound right 2 me?

^ did they take advantage of my warranty? not like i care, but did they?

I doubt they took advantage, it wouldn't surprise me if they just don't ever do things like that at a dealer. I am sure it is more cost effective for them to just throw a new/reman s/c on. IIRC I read somewhere that if you take your car into the dealer and want to s/c oil changed they will tell you that you have to pull the s/c off and dump the oil out. So I think they do things a little differently at the dealer sometimes.

I had a coupler go out at about 60K. The dealership (still under warranty) said they could not replace the coupler so they too replaced the supergharger with a new one. Being that I had a 0 deductable, I let them do it, vise buying the coupler. When the Warranty ran out, I swapped out the coupler and have about 130K on this SC.

I "borrowed" a 2000 GP repair manual from the GM dealership that I work at and was thumbing through the pages one day when i read something about the dealership will NOT dissassemble the supercharger to fix/replace internal components. Or at least it tells the repair tech not to dig into the supercharger but rather just replace it with a new/remanned unit. So yeah, if most of their s/c repairs are warranty work thhey dont make any money out of the deal and wanna get it done ASAP, hence simply replacing the supercharger. But what i dont understand...if they're getting paid $80/hour for labor, why wouldnt they wanna do a labor-intensive supercharger teardown if the customer is willing to pay for labor, parts, etc.? k, im done threadwhoring
