I've owned my '98 GTP for about 9 days now - it was bought as a replacement for my wifes aging daily driver. Car is all stock, 83k miles, runs great. Sunday morning I had a newer 'Stang, complete with red racing strips, pull up next to me at a stoplight on a divided highway. It was wet out, not raining, but wet pavement. He eyeballed me a little bit, on the green I started out, feeding the power in as quick as I dared on the wet pavement. Not my first powerful FWD car, but as you guys probably already are used to, its a fight with all the low end torque on tap - this thing has more wheels spin issues than my Z-28. I kept things mostly hooked up with a bit wheelspin through first and put about half a car on him by the time I hit second, and then I things settled in to me pulling just slightly, until at about 70mph he was clearly losing ground and now behind my rear bumper. He was most displeased! My wife, on the other hand, was ecstatic that her new baby took some Ford pride so early into its time with us! Just had to share!
    2006 GPGT - Magnaflow, K&N CAI.
    1996 Vert' Z-28 - M6, magnaflow muffler-back, K&N FIPK, Hurst Short-throw - 13.6 @ 103mph. * Gone *

I'm a ford guy, personally, but i love the grand am and grand prix. Therefore, I am also a pontiac person. However, Chevy sucks ass and is a very disappointing car maker. I dislike them very much. Hell, dodge is better than Chevy in my book.

I forgive you all for liking chevy.

Old school mopar was sick. New stuff.... not so much.

    nice one on the kill.

get some headers, intake, tune, some new plugs and a 3.4" pulley and watch you have even more traction issues.

i read an article in motor trend about a lingenfelter corvette... it made so much torque that it broke the tires loose and kicked sideways at 127mph. that's just nuts

Might be a bot, watch for the banhammer if it happens too much :/

As for me, Ive seen some real purdy grand ams around texas and on highways and such, and if treated right i really like them. I like their styling. Many others suck balls though. lol. And yes, my GP is my baby. I love to work on my mustang, but i love to drive my GP... so i think that trumps it lol.

ODD.... mine goes straight to Motor Trends site with the link, pics, and info on the testing...

    starting info reads as
"Road Test: 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, 2005 MTI Pontiac GTO, 2005 Livernois Ford Mustang GT, 2005 Lingenfelter Chevrolet Corvette, 2006 Hennessey Dodge Viper Coupe and 2005 Accufab Ford GT

Strike Force: Five cars, 4500 horses one goal: take down america's own supercar
    July, 2006
    / By John Kiewicz
    / Photography by Evan Klein

Forget the 1960s. Now is the golden age of horsepower. Just visit your local new-car dealer, and you'll find an abundance of factory-tuned hot-rods, replete with warranties and that new-car smell. These days, 400 horsepower is easy and 500 commonplace. But what if you crave more? You could one-up your neighbor by sending your vehicle to a tuner for a full performance makeover: Twin turbochargers, custom suspension, and unique bodywork--it's all there if you've got the greenbacks. Last year, the automotive aftermarket was a $35 billion industry--and it's growing.

But the tuners now have to work a whole lot harder to make the factory guys look slow. Case in point is Chevrolet's raucous new Z06. With 505 horsepower, throw-out-the-anchor-braking, and Nuerburgring-tuned competition suspension, the Z06 is a genuine all-American supercar capable of taking on Porsche and Ferrari. Yet how would the muscular Z06 stack up against the latest rides from America's best tuners? Are tuner vehicles really that much faster? Moreover, is the price tag worth it?

To find out, we wrangled five of America's hottest tuner offerings for a no-holds-barred showdown against the almighty Z06; six tough tests conducted on the U.S. Navy's finest military airfield to determine exactly where performance myth meets reality. In the process we debunked some lore, got some scares, and set some records. Who would be the top guns of the test track? You may be surprised.

Read more: 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, 2005 MTI Pontiac GTO, 2005 Livernois Ford Mustang GT, 2005 Lingenfelter Chevrolet Corvette, 2006 Hennessey Dodge Viper Coupe and 2005 Accufab Ford GT - Performance Sport Coupe Comparison & Review - Motor Trend"

then jumps to the photo's taken during testing of the 6 cars
