Well the outcome is how i figured. There is a blue and white saleen that always comes down my street. I have been wanting to race just for the heck of it. I like race even if i lose its just fun to me. Well he drove by this morning i was in the yard washing ol black. I waved he stoped we talked for a while man this saleen is nasty all hooked up. I asked if he would run me just for kicks he laughed said sure. so we lined up down the road and well things were ugly i needed about another 7 inches of pedal travel lol. owell it was fun thats all that matters

Well ya never know, when I used to live in southern MI there was one that looked badass and somehow even sounded good. I found him one day on the streets and walked him hard in my S/c'd solstice running like 9 lbs. Had no idea how knowing how fast they usually are. Well at the time I worked at an oil change. He came in a few weeks later, I pop his hood, and bam...V6. He had the GT badges and all. Dousche bag!!

I saw a V6 Mustang done up as a full Saleen once...tragic. But they are fast cars and it is a lot of fun when you beat one.

GT40? Price doesn't really matter when your looking for speed.

Yeah it does...I couldn't see myself spending twice as much money for a car that goes just as good but can you really compare the GT40 to the ZR1 for the price...some GT40's sold for over $200,000...hell the first one was auctioned off for over $550,000 back in what 2003? I bet inflation would probably make that about $600K now if not more...and the performance marks are pretty much identical...And even with dealer mark ups I think the most expensive ZR1 in the US sold for a little over $130,000 fully loaded...

    Ford GT:

    HP: 550
    TQ: 500
    Weight: 3,400lbs.
    0–60 mph: 3.7
    0–100 mph: 7.4
    1/4 mile: 11.2@131.2 mph
    Top speed: 205 mph limited

    Corvette ZR1:

    HP: 638
    TQ: 604
    Weight: 3,300lbs.
    0-60 mph: 3.3
    0-100: 7.0
    1/4 Mile: 11.10@132mph
    Top Speed: 205 mph

So...I'd like to spend that other $100 grand on a house or something and still go faster...and maybe even get a few Hennessey Performance parts for the ZR1 and run 10's

A set of slicks on a ZR1 I bet would put you deep into the 10's. A Stock Z06 ran a 10.9 on slicks.

Just my opinion but your using the wrong car from ford to compare to the zr1. Shelby GT500 Super Snake. Comes with 600 hp and you keep your warranty but if you are willing to give up the warranty they will tune up to a little over 725hp. Only costs $28k plus cost of a gt500. This car was specifically designed to compete with the z06 and new zr1. I would still pick the vette anyways but just thought I would chime in with this. I think these two cars would make a great race.

A Shelby is useless...Power is all that they have. No skidpad, braking, or comfortable points. They can BARELY run 12's in a stock GT500 because the thing has horrible wheelspin and crappy tires...they can't hook for beans. You think going from 550hp to 725hp is going to make it faster than a ZR1. Pahleeez. And I was comparing the ZR1 to a GOOD RUNNING MATE like the car Dagger said; the GT40. And to be honest. **** the GT500 Super Snake...the GT40 blows that thing out of the water anyday of the week. Best part about it is, the GT40 CAN put that power to the ground, unlike the Stang. Go buy your 725hp Mustang and I'll buy a Z06 and pown you because you'll be either spinning or maybe enough throttle to NOT engage the blower.

Did you read my post, I said right at the bottom I would still pick the vette. I was just saying, I think the super snake is better than the ford gt. The super snake package addresses alot of the issues you mentioned

I know. Did you read mine? Not saying you didn't pick the Vette I was saying how crappy of a comparison the 725hp Mustang to the ZR1 vs. the Ford GT to the ZR1 is. The 'Stang is just a yacht compared to the likes of the ZR1 or even a Z06 for that matter...it is in a totally different class.

I agree they are two different classes of cars. I am also a firm believer of if you polish a turd at the end of the day you still have a turd. However, this car was made to compete at the level of the vettes, both new models(z06 and zr1) On a road course, hands down I'd take a vette any day. Theyre lighter, more responsive with the steering and it doesn't feel like a 3000 lb car(because its not) But if I wanted to get up and go...I can get a brand new super snake for significantly less than a zr1. Last price I saw for one was in the range of 120k. I cant afford a car like that, otherwise, I'd have one. With that being said, I've had the privelage of driving an 07 z06 and I've also driven the new gt500kr. Its not as bad as people might think. Vette wins no doubt but for the money, the packages they have available for those cars arent too shabby. Especially to someone who isn't like, Ohh I wont drive that, its a ford. I was just trying to peak the interest and see what people thought of the comparison. I just think theyre going in the right direction to compete with GM. Not good enough but theyre getting there. Its a lot more fun to me to beat up on a modded ford who gives me a run for my money than with a stocker who thinks they can go.
