i just got a set of 17x7 uni lug rims through a trade.rims are nice, prob not my 1st choice but for now they will be fine.anyway trying to get opinions on what tire size would go best with them...17x7 wheel..stock 04 gtp,was thinkin a 235 55 17? also appears the wheels have a pretty tight fit for nuts,my factory lugs wont fit, they are to "fat",is there a different version of lug nuts for such a application? thanks for any input

They make a skinny locking lug nut thing for that type of wheel. Hit up Autozone or Advance and they'll point you in the right direction.

225/55/17 is the tire size you want.

I have those slim splined lug nuts and hate em with a passion.

Either I'm incompetent or something I've snapped half a dozen studs with those aluminum thin splined ones. And not one with regular lugs.

ill keep that in mind..your snapping your wheel studs with alum lug nuts? are you using impact gun? i have one of those torque stick things i use with my factory nuts, seems to work well, but it wont work for the new nuts i need,at least i dont think it will..

I'm guessing they are aluminum, but no I just use a breaker bar. Again its probably user error but i find they like to crossthread.

I'm the crossthread and break stuff guy tho.

You have quite a few options if you are willing to spend a few $$.
I plan on some Mutekis SR48 for my next nuts. Burnt blue or some neo chrome, both about 100 roughly

Here is an example from Amazon.

You could probably run 235 width, but 235/55 is 27.1" tall. 235/50 is only 26.25 tall. If you want to go wider you'd want 245/50/17, but 245 is probably a little too wide for a 7" rim.

Ooops forgot about the center cover. Yeah then you have to know what length is right. But make sure they are steel

These would be perfect. Most are 3/4 drives(19mm)....these are 17mm drive.

yea...im gonna need something pretty small in diameter. i havent measured the actual diameter of the holes in the rim yet..ive been looking at the "tuner" style lugs as well,id rather have a regular nut though if all possible...

there's two rules for lug nuts if you are an normal car person:

    1) never spline drive
    2) never aluminum

the rest is all fair game. there are some really, really nice sets out there that will typically cost north of $250/set, but those are completely unnecessary unless you have some super sweet wheels to showcase.

just measured my actual diameter of the hole for the lug nut in the wheel..its only 7/8 inch in diameter, cant even get a socket in it,looks like ill have to go with the "tuner" style lugs..
